Then how do we even know they are sick with or dying of the swine flu!? And how do those deaths then mean everyone should be vaccinated with an untested agent or else lose their jobs?

the same question was asked on another thread as well: if they've stopped testing (because suposedly "99%" of the cases are swine flu), how the hell does anyone know if it's actually swine flu?

thus, the formula for the present diagnosis probably now works something like this:

kid with "symptoms" + panicky parent = swine flu

i understand it's a good idea for folks who are feeling symptoms of whateveritis to treat it like swine flu. but officially generalizing every ilness as swine flu only fuels mass hysteria. the number of those who actually have contracted the virus is likely quite inflated.

i'm not understanding why common sense is being thrown to the wind in favor of panic. not to be a conspiracy theorist or anything , but has anyone followed the money here? :confused:

i, am just really frightened at the power of government right now. no one i know is against being innoculated against diseases with vaccines which have been proven over time to be effective with minimal risks{i've taken hep b and many other vaccines over the years with no problem}. the problem is the h1n1 vaccine which has been rushed into production with the immunity factor for the pharm. companies..that is just too bizarre!!! i have read here about strikes but new york city government healthcare workers under contract would be subject to the taylor law which prohibits strikes. i feel as though i am living in the twilight zone. i am so sick of those who feel it is ok to be mandated.....i, for one am a multi-generational american{since the early 1800's} citizen who understands my rights as a citizen of america. the constitution and the bill of rights was long and hard won by my country to protect each and everyone of us from governmental tyranny..do you not understand that the government works for us..not the other way around? sebelus{sp} and daines the arrogant are displaying dictatorship.

y'all know richard daines is not :no:taking the h1n1 vaccine, although he also is a healthcare worker in the state of ny.........right????????? now why is he not with such myriad contacts with other heath care workers? question:argue: authority, question it and question it again..do your research, track the bios of many in 'authority' who want you to risk your life and efficient muscular ability!!!

There is something very strange going on here...Is it a coincidence that this is being pushed so hard and so fast now, at a time when our government is trying so hard to get a major health care reform bill passed? What better way to get everyone all eager to do this than to have a real or contrived health emergency?
I am also very disturbed by the story I recently came across about how Baxter, one of the companies making this vaccine, was found to have sent out a large batch of vaccine contaminated with H5N1 virus. (It has a 60% kill rate, and is a level 3 biosafety agent- so go figure how it "accidently" got into the vaccine...) This story is being covered over in Europe, but nothing is being said over here...why?
Well, I'll let the conspiracy theorists have at it, but you do have to wonder about this.

I've been called a conspiracy theorists over refusing a mandatory H1N1 vaccine, and the funny thing is, if I were TRULY thinking of a conspiracy it would be this:

Let all the "sheeple" people get the vaccine, and kill the rest with the swine flu. Then the sheeple will bow down to our government for "saving them" and any future vaccines will be accepted without question.

My school is requiring we take the vaccine, but the funny thing is, our clinical sites (at least not all of them) are NOT requiring their employees to take them.

I've been told I can wear a mask at all times when I'm in the hospital (and then I was told "good luck eating with that thing on, because you have to wear it in the cafeteria too").

The alternative to wear a mask wasn't presented UNTIL I argued about the safety of this vaccine. And even now the alternative of eating in my car hasn't been offered up. The hospitals don't care where we eat, so that particular stipulation could only come from my school.

The literature from the FDA says there haven't been any studies finished (some are in progress) in regards to pregnant women taking the vaccine. There's at least one pregnant woman in my class. I do not believe she's going to take the vaccine, and I'm going to stand behind her 100%. The FDA literature also says they don't know what effect the vaccine will have on fertility. This is a big deal!

They also admit the vaccine won't protect you 100% against GETTING the swine flu, so why take it?

I'm opting for a mask.

Absolute reckless insanity, isn't it? Ethically/morally/scientifically OUTRAGEous.
This all comes down to individual rights - specifically the right to control one's own body. They aren't going to get away with this. Especially if they attempt to mandate the vaccine for the general public. Sparks over a tinderbox.

I couldn't agree more.

Consistently throughout Nursing school I've been told that I need to protect my patients' autonomy.

Now that I'm sticking up for my own, they're trying to shut me down.

Does what happened in Europe with Baxter have anything to do with the swine flu vaccine being released in the US?

No, it doesn't. Here's why. Baxter is not one of the 5 companies licensed to make flu vaccine for the US market. The five companies are: MedImmune, Novartis AG, Sanofi-Aventis SA, GlaxoSmithKline PLC and CSL Ltd.

Getting the swine flu vaccine should be a personal decision based on whatever you want to base it on. I prefer facts to innunendo.

do you feel the annual flu shot is rushed into production every year?

this shot is exactly like the annual flu shot...with one difference. the annual flu shot has three split virus strains. the h1n1 vaccine only has one. (they share everything else in common...both the shot--dead virus and the nasal spray--live, but weakened virus are the same as the flu shot) that is the sum total difference between an annual flu shot and the h1n1 vaccine.

however, even with the amazing track record that the annual flu shot has....they did extra testing on pregnant women and kids with asthma, just to be sure.

this is not a new and untested vaccine.

I was given a handout from the FDA that says they didn't KNOW the side effects the H1N1 vaccine would have on a fetus. They also added that they didn't know if the vaccine could cause future fertility problems.

I'm finding it so strange that people on the outside seem to know more than the FDA does, and that I can be told "they tested pregnant women more thoroughly this time." Really? Please show me that in their literature.

Why would they talk about future fertility if it were the exact same shot that has been tested thoroughly?

Clinical trials on pregnant women only began on September 9th. So here we have a dilemma because not all of those women will give birth by the time the vaccine is distributed (if the lawsuit doesn't halt it), especially if they were "tested" in the first or second trimester.

Most people that are concerned about the vaccine are concerned about LONG-TERM effects.

I truly hope that when a patient tells one of us that they will NOT be taking something, that we stick up for their right to say no and don't try to misinform them in order to get them to consent. Seriously. They have a right to their autonomy.

So do I.

they're still asking for pregnant women to enroll for the study. notice also when the clinical trial began and how many pregnant women each site is testing (only 20).

if you skip down to the pregnancy section, here is what it says:

8.1 pregnancy

pregnancy category c: animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with influenza a (h1n1) 2009 monovalent vaccine or fluzone vaccine. it is also not known whether these vaccines can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. influenza a (h1n1) 2009 monovalent vaccine should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.

this is still on their website right now, so it's current information as far as i'm concerned. if we're putting our faith in them (even with hundreds of "mistakes" they've made in the past), then we have to rely on their information, no?

13.1. carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, impairment of fertility

neither fluzone vaccine nor influenza a (h1n1) 2009 monovalent vaccine have been evaluated for carcinogenic or mutagenic potential, or for impairment of fertility.

i'm failing to see how you can say "they did extra testing on pregnant women and kids with asthma, just to be sure", curiousme.
