LVNs going extinct? MAs taking over?

  1. 0
I have read over and over, it's a constant battle between this argument.

Truth is, I don't give a crap. LVNs will start ranting on this topic but its true, they are going extinct. And I really dont care what LVNs have to say because they will defend their "class" and so on and so forth, but in reality...

Search it up on indeed.com or any job search engine...then search of medical assistants.
They are more high in demand.

We learn the same things and pay like 10k less.

What is the point of this post? Just feel the need to poke the hornet's nest tonight, or what?

Besides, if you really had any balls, you'd put this in the LVN/LPN forum.

I think we need to be respectful of each other as professional and conduct ourselves accordingly. Each member of the healthcare team have very specific roles to provide the best care of our patients. Each of us choose the path that we wish to follow and decide what is best for us individually....and what is best for our families.

I think we need to acknowledge each other and respect each others roles within the healthcare system in order to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Each member of the healthcare team is valuable, unique, and worthy of respect. As professionals, our efforts would be more effectively utilized if we came together in unity.

We've heard the old saying: "United we stand, divided we fall."

Did you search pay grades while you were on indeed.com?

And besides, the reason LPNs and MAs "do the same thing" in a doctors office setting is because the scopes of practice happen to overlap for that particular set of duties. The medical assistant role was created because nurses (both LPN and especially RN) were becoming too expensive an option for this setting. As nursing education and focus has moved away from the "doctor's handmaiden" role of yesteryear, licensed nurses have become overqualified for the traditional "office nurse" role.

In other words, I can do anything a MA can do, if I were willing to take the pay cut. But a MA cannot legally do my job (LTC). Or any other job that legally requires a nurse. If I were to be replaced by another member of the healthcare team, it would be a RN. If LPNs ever become "extinct", it will be because our duties are absorbed by RNs. You (a MA) cannot assume my duties.

I'm a RMA, and a Navy Hospital Corpsman vet. Those MA's that think they're over a LPN- think again because we're NOT. For the same reasons CNA's are not MA's. It's the scope of practice and don't forget it! Also, be respectful!
