Fired for posting on face book

They just fired a girl for bashing the company's name on face book. Risking my life to go to a underpaid job at CH is not worth it is not really bashing the company. It was a negative comment but she never said they were a bad company just that she was under paid and not worth taking a chance with her life to drive in the snow. What are your thoughts about this?

The user who posted that was making an indirect reference to how people share every minute detail of their lives on social networks, like what they ate for breakfast, for example.
Bingo!

I was once FB friends with a teenager who posted 'updates' up to 7 or 8 times a day: "Just woke up 45 minutes ago, love you all!" "Ate oatmeal, banana and milk for breakfast." "It's 10:15 and I'm off to the gym. Love you guys!" "It's 2:00 and I'm here at the mall eating a late lunch with my bff." "Playing Candy Crush Saga at home & just chillin'." "Dinnertime at my boyfriend's pad!" "It's almost midnight and I'm going to sleep, much love to you all!" :)

Facebook is going to be the demise of society been saying it since day one. I have seen many people get fired, broken up with, commit suicide, have their pictures stolen and get sued all from Facebook. Not worth it. Better to keep your life, thoughts, feelings and what you did on Saturday to yourself.

I have to say that if I was an employer, I would come down like Thor's Hammer if an employee "bashed" my company on social media.

I might give them a stern talking-to first, but that would be the only warning.

In the old days, we employees vented our frustrations via telephone to a friend. This is a good reminder to us all that the telephone is still useful.

so true.. I deleted my Facebook profile when I joined the work force. ..

Dear OP: Are you aware that your privacy is not guaranteed on AllNurses.com? Are you aware that some of your coworkers or even your boss may be members of AN? Are you aware that putting the kind of information you put out on this thread could get you fired if someone found out it was you that posted it? Just a thought.

I had a FB "friend" who posted stuff like that. Eventually she stopped--I'm wondering if some other friend told her how pointless and annoying it was to the rest of us. Then again, I could have just "defriended"--although a part of me thinks of that as rude.

Regardless, I would definitely say that the person mentioned in the OP "bashed" the company. She implied that the company does not care about its employees and it is a bad place to work. Those 2 things might be true, but keep them off of FB!

Kind of off topic, but just so you know, you can 'hide' people from your News Feed so you can avoid seeing their pointless updates without potentially sending the wrong message by unfriending them, because everyone knows deleting someone off Facebook is akin to telling them you don't want them in your life.

Good to know! :) Now back to the regularly scheduled discussion.

BTW, how old was this person who was fired? She may not have been mature, but was she actually a girl? Why do some individuals insist on calling females who work in healthcare "girls?" When I worked as a CNA, a lot of the nurses referred to any female CNAs as "girls" even though some of them were 50+ years old.

My thoughts on this? The "girl" had a poor attitude about her job and about the necessity of caring for patients in bad weather. And she needs to learn how to drive in the snow. Further, she should have known better than to put a comment like that on the internet where anyone can read it (or print it out and show it to the boss.)

Now about you -- surely YOU know better than to post something like this. I hope!

I have a firm rule when dealing with my fb account. If I can't say it to your face then I don't paste it online. Makes life simple. Use fb to keep up with family and friends not to update every minute of my life.

Completely inappropriate. If you wouldn't say it to the company head/manager/co workers' faces, don't say it on FB.
