Fired for posting on face book

They just fired a girl for bashing the company's name on face book. Risking my life to go to a underpaid job at CH is not worth it is not really bashing the company. It was a negative comment but she never said they were a bad company just that she was under paid and not worth taking a chance with her life to drive in the snow. What are your thoughts about this?

In this day and age of prevalent digital communications, the majority of healthcare employers have policies that govern workers' use of social media. If any of these policies are broken, a worker's employment could be terminated.

Your coworker stated that her job at ___ (insert company's name) is an underpaid position. Although this is her opinion, it reflects negatively on the company, and any members of the public who read the post might start wondering.

Companies have an image to groom and constantly maintain. Workers who post too openly on Facebook are threats to the polished image of professional safe havens that these hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities like to uphold.

Furthermore, healthcare workers look unprofessional to the public when they post statements such as, "I'm not risking my life to go to an underpaid job at ___ (insert company's name)." In times of bad weather, we are essential personnel.

I do NOT agree with firing anyone over Facebook comments. However, this should serve as a warning to think long and hard before you post.

agree with the institution. you don't bite the hand that feeds you. this is nothing new, and doing it on social media doesn't exempt one from it.

Growing up in a world without social media, I still consider it a fringe form of communication. I am too fearful to even create an account for Facebook, Twitter, yahoo, Pinterest . There should be a required humanities class discussing the dangers, not merely against it.

P.s. Incase anyone's wondering , I had oatmeal for breakfast with plain yogurt and grapefruit juice. :)

We have freedom of speech in the US, but people forget that we are not free from the consequences of that right. When will people understand what's appropriate ? SMH

I agree with your employer. Healthcare is completely different than any other profession. When we still lived up north, if my wife couldn't make it to work in her own vehicle, they would have national guard members pick her up. Patients need to be seen whether there is snow or not and posting on facebook is public info. If you don't want to tell your boss to their face that they suck, then don't post it on facebook either. EVERYTHING you put on the internet is PUBLIC! If you want privacy, keep it to yourself.

Knows everyone's maturity level is different but sometimes, I wish there was a rule that people must be a certain age before they could be an RN.You are right, don't bite the hand that feeds you and freedom of speech has limits. She's young and stupid anyways. I did a happy dance when she got fired because I hated working with her. She told me to not pull on a resident because it's makes him aggravated. I snapped at her with the reply he's was about to trip over the wheel chair... was I suppose to let him fall. The rest of the night, she corrected everything I did to make me feel stupid. I'm happy she's gone!!! I pray these people with no common sense doesn't get into nursing until later on, when they can make mature decision. Nursing is a hard enough job without the battle of dealing with idiots with no common sense. This morning I ate half a cup of Raspberry & Velvet cake Yogurt. I rather have plain raspberry. The raspberry and chocolate yogurt tastes okay as well. I like face book to stay in touch with family, however, I learned that playing on social networks will get you stalked by creepy people so no longer go to those places. I must keep face book to feed my Candy Crush addiction.

But what did it LOOK like??

Now that person doesn't have to risk their life anymore win-win :) All these companies are on fb now days, so everyone should know not to say anything negative at all

Did YOU report her? Lol hmmm...

Yes she should not have said that, but how did the company end up finding out? I never become friends with anyone I work with on my facebook. Too risky.

This has to be one of the most hateful, unprofessional posts I have seen in a long time.

Maturity doesn't always come with age.

I pray that people with poor attitudes and limited skills in the areas of grammar, spelling and syntax don't get into nursing. But that's just me.
