Fired for posting on face book

They just fired a girl for bashing the company's name on face book. Risking my life to go to a underpaid job at CH is not worth it is not really bashing the company. It was a negative comment but she never said they were a bad company just that she was under paid and not worth taking a chance with her life to drive in the snow. What are your thoughts about this?

lol, she was a young lady about 18 years old, very immature young lady who though she knew everything.

Somehow, I continue to be amazed at the incredible naivete so many people using online forums exhibit. They say they are shocked, or hurt, or surprised, or angry when they discover the basic truths to using the Internet. Imagine....it ISN'T a private diary hidden under their beds, with the key around their necks, impenetrable by all (oh, wait, that isn't hack-proof either). Go figure.

My amazement, though, at this point is limited to those that insist it's "wrong" for an employer to use online material posted by the employee as evidence against them, used against them for discipline and/or dismissal. They arrogantly believe that it's "private". Who on earth told them that??

I am a dinosaur, in terms of home computer use: I have been an online user of the internet since the very early 90's; in fact it really WAS a "new thing" when I first traversed online forums open to the public. Even though the concept was new, I believe we were less naive than today's newbies: we KNEW it was a public system. Nothing could be considered truly private....and this was TWENTY YEARS ago!

Age does not equal maturity. It obviously doesn't indicate intelligence, as stupid and immature come at both ends of the life span.

For those who feel it should be "safe" to spout off about your employer on a public forum: if you believe you would have no repercussions to a colorful flyer on your facility's bulletin board stating your "private" feelings, then I guess I can understand your confusion regarding the internet. But if you recognize that saying on a bulletin board that your employer is awful, your boss is awful, your co-workers are awful, your shift/pay/benefits are awful *might* be detrimental to your future at that company, you have no reason to be indignant that your Facebook comment was regarded poorly.

Guess I'll continue to be amazed ;)
