Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Thank you very much for your quick reply, Suzanne4!

I'm glad to know they may accept my tech school diploma.

Fortunately getting a visa isn't a problem. In 3 months I'll have my greencard.

Thank you again.

You are not requied to have experience in your home country, but be aware that the process takes about one year, if not longer before you can work in the US. And you cannot begin any of the process unitl you have ac ompleted set of transcripts.

thanks so much for your reply suzanne...i have a tourist visa, would that make the process a little bit faster? if yes, how. and is it necessary to take the philippine board exam? is this a requirement for the visa screen? thanks again.

hello, im from the philippines, im just wondering about what will be the next step after passing the nclex and the english tests? i have no tourist visa. by the way, im also a licensed med tech in the philippines. is it easier to be employed in the u.s as a nurse or as a medtech?

You can look for employers already since you can be petitioned using your NCLEX and apply for the visascreen certification using your NCLEX and English exams if you still haven't done so.

As a medical technologist, you do not qualify for an expedited green card with that, so the wait could be five years or more.

As an RN, you do.

hello, i'm new here. Ms. Suzanne, i would just like to ask about licensing in california. I am a nurse here in manila and i intend to take the nclex this june in hongkong, if i pass it, what document will CA-BON issue to me and how long will it remain valid before i can claim my permanent/hard license in california. I don't understand the social security number requirement to get the hard license. I've been looking for this info in the internet for quite some time and i can't seem to find it. I'm planning to take the nclex and ielts and hopefully after passing both, i can start applying to employers in california either through the internet or an agency. I was told that the nclex is only valid for one year until i get to california to claim the hard license because i need the social security number, and i can only get a social security number if i have an employer who will sponsor my papers. Is this true? Please help me. Thank you!

You have three years to submit an actual SSN# to CA BRN to recieve the actual license. Until that time, you will only be issued a letter stating that you have passed, but you in fact will not be licensed in the US, until you have the SSN#.

California wants proof that you can legally work in the US before you will actually get the permanent license. You will get the SSN# after you enter the US once all immigration procedures have been completed. You actually have to apply for it once you come to the US, and it only takes about one week to get it. It is not something that you can apply for overseas.

unfortunately there is no quick way to move to the US

For AZ you need to register with AZ Bon, get CES from CGFNS and pass NCLEX, find a hospital willing to petition you then the process for immigration can start. Having someone out there who is not related will not help and even if related there can still be a long waiting time (as in years) to get into the US. Would suggest reading the stickies at the top of this forum

hello everyone!..i'm a nurse from the philippines...i've read this whole thread and somehow decided that i'll apply to the NY BON..but i've been thinking also of vermont since there' s no need for cg cert and ces so it means that i'll be saving about 270 dollars if ever I choose that route.. my question however is what if i dont get petitioned by an employer in vermont and my license expires? can i renew my license without ever having worked in that state?..and to what states can i get endorsed to which doesnt require ces/cvs?..are there such states?..thanks!

This may sound so silly... but it's a question anyway :p

I was wondering if CGFNS will contact my school and my local board of nursing (to verify my license) in English. If they do so, so they'll probably have no response as people here don't generally speak English.

I'm really worried about that as I'll probably apply for NY CVS.

Excuse me for such an idiot thought, but I really don't want anything to go wrong..

Also I'm sure they never had anyone from my school trying to get licensed in the US, may this cause any trouble during the process?

Last but not least. In my home country it's necessary to have a license in order to practice but I'm not really willing to get it as I'm moving to the US as soon as I graduate. What should I do then? May I just check that box "I don't have a license from my local board of nursing" or having a license from my country will help me get my license here ?

Thanks a lot for answering !

I am a UK based nurse applying for visa screen certificate-i graduated from a royal air force hospital over 20 years ago-and this no longer exists-the UK board of nursing has sent all my qualifications but CGFNS say they need transcript validation form from hospital that no longer esxists-how do i get around this?-thanks

Someone posted this the other day and I am kind of wanting to know the answer to the above. Thanks
