As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

hello everyone!..i'm a nurse from the philippines...i've read this whole thread and somehow decided that i'll apply to the NY BON..but i've been thinking also of vermont since there' s no need for cg cert and ces so it means that i'll be saving about 270 dollars if ever I choose that route.. my question however is what if i dont get petitioned by an employer in vermont and my license expires? can i renew my license without ever having worked in that state?..and to what states can i get endorsed to which doesnt require ces/cvs?..are there such states?..thanks!

i applied for a license in vermont. you'll just spend $150 for your initial application, the process takes about 1-2 months only and they will send you your att for nclex. a license from the u.s. is a sure way to have an employer. you can just have your license endorsed to other states,including new york, new jersey, california,etc.
my experience was i applied for a license in vt, but I had a cgfns certificate that's why it's faster, after taking the nclex in saipan,ncmi and passing it vt b.o.n. released the hard copy of my license after a week..
your petitioner need not from vermont, it could be anywhere as long as you are an nclex passer.. my agency is based in new jersey if you are an nclex or cgfns passer.. feel free to ask me questions for possible employment in nj or ny.

sorry, but even if you have a license in one state..you can not endorse it to another state right away. you have to meet the requirement of that particular bon. for example- ny requires cvs even if you are licensed in the usa. pa requires ces for endorsement. i heard that nj and ct also require cgfns certificate for endorsement.

NY will not permit endorsement until you have the CVS done. NJ requires that you pass the CGFNS exam, as does Connecticut,Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
The NCLEX exam has reciprocity and is accepted in all states, but you still need to meet the requirements of that state. NCLEX is only part of the licensing process.

Have the documents notorized at the US Embassy.
You can pay for them by bank check or money order payable in US Dollars.
If you can afford only one form, then send for the CVS first, if you are going for licensure in NY. NY will not process your application without that being done.

If a foreign trained nurse then you do need Visa screen and can apply now for it. As a nurse you need to apply for GC well actually you need to find an employer willing to petition you for GC and yo may find that employers prefer NCLEX pass to CGFNS pass

I would send everything yourself and just use her address as your mailing address. I have seen too many problems occur when things did not arrive properly on time, etc. Or you are also looking at two courier fees, never send anything by regular mail, unless you have the time to wait to replace any of it.
And I definitely would not use CA for initial licensure, you will not get your exam done and find out the result for months and months and months.
