Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Forgot to add: It takes about a month for PearsonVue to process your registration. So if you wait for your eligibility from your BON before registering, that's another month of waiting (probably even more for those based in the Philippines). Whereas if you register with PearsonVue right away, the time spent waiting for your eligibility and the ATT happen at the same time, so the moment the BON notifies PearsonVue of your eligibility, your ATT would have been ready by then. That way, not another month is wasted and you get your ATT sooner. ;-)

wish you all the best and God bless!

CGFNS will post when they are sending the file onto NY. Never do a thing before this time.

Please do not give out incorrect information.

Sorry, but wrong information.

It has never taken Pearson-Vue one month to process any application. They need to wait for approval to be given by the state before they can let you do anything.

For any foreign student, never register with Pearson-Vue until you get approval from the BON, or you know for a fact that you are. If something gets delayed, and for some reason you are unalbe to take the exam, during a certain period of time, if you have paid, you lose the money, and that is $350 if you are taking it overseas.

Why the rush to register with Pearson-Vue? You cannot schedule an exam time or date until the state gives permission for you to so.

For those of you that want to jump the gun, and register ahead. Please be my guest, but do not complain later when you have lost that money.

Suzanne, so do you think people from PearsonVue are lying? How come I personally did what PearsonVue instructed and got my ATT sooner than my eligibility notice from the BON?

We all know that its the BON that decides eligibility, but PearsonVue does the job of coordinating with the BON to determine whether a candidate is qualified to take the nclex, and their access to the BON makes it easier (and faster) for them to know if a candidate who had registered with them is eligible or not. The problem with the BON is they take so much time informing the candidate of their eligibility (such a waste of precious time).

Personally, this is what I did: I applied for licensure with BON, then I registered with PearsonVUe, got confirmation from PearsonVue, received my ATT (online confirmation) from PearsonVUe, got my eligibility confirmation from BON shortly after, then finally received the hard copy of my ATT.

The facts I had stated came directly from PearsonVue, not something I plucked out of the air. If you have doubts, you can personally contact PearsonVue. Once you do, you can share the info you've obtained from them regarding the registration process, so others may be enlightened too. Like I said, there may be quite a difference with those applying from overseas. So it would be best to confirm this with PearsonVUe.

Good day and good luck to all those about to take the exam. I hope you can settle your ATT problem soon so you can buckle down to serious business and start reviewing for the exam. God bless

speedtec.....

you have a point but what suzanne wants is for the applicant not to take risks and to save $350 in case troubles sets in.

I just got my ATT from pearson vue last week. i applied to NY BON by the way. the thing is, you CAN ALWAYS register with Pearson Vue even though NY BON has NOT given you eligibility BUT there will always be a risk that NY BON will not permit you to sit for the NCLEX because of lack of hours for certain nursing rotations or NY BON found out that your nursing education DOES NOT fullfill their requirements. REMEMBER: after NY BON receives your Transcripts and Licenses from CGFNS, NY BON will EVALUATE your Transcripts and License prior to giving you eligibility and it usually takes them 2 weeks to 8 weeks.

Pearson Vue does NOT take a month for processing. It will take them AT MOST 48 hours when NY BON gives them your files. In my case, i did register for Pearson Vue without my eligibility letter because i called up NY BON and they gave me the go signal to register to PV because letters from NY will take at least 20 days for me to receive in Manila

I agree w/ Jon. Pearsonvue is just the company that NCSBN contracts to give the NCLEX RN exam for them. It is a business. One can register to pearsonvue and "pretend" to be eligible. Heck, you can even register and pay for the fee even if your not really taking the exam or not even a nurse. If you pay, they will accept it. Period. You will also receive the recept or acknowledgment of payment for registration. That's it. Whether they will give you the ATT is another thing because they will have to wait for the BON to transmit your data to them and the data you gave to the BON must match the data you gave to pearsonvue (for obvious security reasons) for them to send your ATT. Try registering for another exam that pearsonvue caters too (other than NCLEX) or register again to NCLEX in another name. They will be more than happy to accept your registration and payment. Giving the ATT is another thing. They will not permit you to take the exam if they later found out that your not realy a candidate for that exam or your a bogus candidate. Will they return the registration fee? No they won't. Same with being a true candidate but not yet deem eligible by the BON.

The mere fact that you receive your ATT 1 month after you registered means that the BON just transmitted it at that time and you weren't eligible yet at the time you registered. Most of those who registered who were eligible got their ATT almost instantaneously (within 5-10 mins). SOme BONs took 24-48 hours maybe because the BON hasn't transmitted it yet. BUt that's it.

I really don't think reps from pearsonvue can do much in pursuading the BONs to hasten their job.

God Bless to all. ;)

To everyone who has contributed so much and sharing their own experiences to my query about ATT, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Especially to speedtec who took the liberty of even calling PV to inquire about my situation, to laurance01, jonMD and lakwatsero for their continuous contribution. Many, many thanks again.

Yes, many of us have different points and experiences to share concerning this matter. And from all this, I presume the most sensible thing to do is to call NY-BON and follow up on my application, and inquire about the reason why up to this time they have not issued my eligibility yet despite the FACT that CGFNS has sent its FINAL NOTIFICATION TO NY-BON (via Standard Ground Mail) on my CVS last march.

I’m almost in the rim of registering to pearson vue enlightened by many of my collegues who has done so, even though they have not yet received their eligibility letter yet. I guess, registrants from oversees have different outcomes because most of those I know went ahead with their registration with PV even without their eligibility and already got their ATT.

I will keep you all updated regarding my situation. I am truly grateful for all your contributions. Please continue to share your experience about this matter to us. This forum is a great help to all us nurses who are planning, and still waiting for results on our BON applications.

Take care, and God Bless to all.

Hello Suzanne , sorry but Im losing my mind, Ive applied to NY and CVS-NY in CGFNS but I do not have any news and there was three months ago, in CGFNS they have not yet asked for my documents (I have called my School and National Board to ask if there were any request from US) and that seems too long to me, I thought New York would be faster, Now in my desperate situation Ive just look Florida Board web page and it says all they need is 2 steps: the CES and you to pass NCLEX (apparently that will be enough proof of proficiency in english) not even ask for TOEFL Please give me advice I dont care about paying for CES but I want to get in US in the quickest time, do you think that starting now the CES is silly because it will take too much time too? in the web page the CGFNS say it takes them 8 weeks to process CES and in the Florida Board just after 10 days they receive the elegibility they send my ATT, so it will make 10 weeks and then all is done (I guess), should I look for another State Board which you can then endorse to almost any state? Sorry but as you see I m desperate

NCLEX is the licensing exam that all nurses must take and pass to work in the US. It is actually the final step in the licensing procedure. Even if you were an American citizen, and trained in the US, you still will need to write the NCLEX exam.

You can take the exam in Europe or in Asia, it is currently not available in the Middle East. That woudl be the best way to do it, get it done before you come to the US. You will also need to take the English exams, check out the new sticky at the top of this forum, and it will give you all of the information that you need.

Hi, Suzanne4 I see that you are very knowledgeable moderator :) I am graduate of BMCC Nursing School- City University of New York. I am international student received my OPT about a month ago, waiting for my NCLEX exam. My question is, what is the best way for me to start my career

go to New York City Hospitals, Private Hospitals or through the agencies?

Another question if by any chance you know which hospitals sponsor

international graduates from New York Nursing Schools, please can you list them or refer to a resource where can i find that. One more question how long you think this process will take and is it more beneficiary for me to move to New Jersey?

hi there guys,

i would like to seek advice since I am intending on applying in NEVADA since this is the 2nd place where I do have relatives aside from California... from advices and opinions I have seen from the forum they say it takes a long time to process application in Cali.

So for my questions is it advisable to apply in NEVADA?

Does it take a long time to process papers in NEVADA's BON?

Is it okay to use the mailing address of a relative in the US as compared to my address here in the Philippines for the documents?

I received a copy of the BON Nevada Application Form... and it has this fingerprint card... how do I go about that? It mentioned something about all informations should be complete what if I do not have a SSS Number? And can I use my relatives address there in the US as my address? Or should I use my local address here in the Philippines? It was also mentioned that this takes a long time to process so i was intending on having this done first so that at least something is moving with my documents...

Hope to hear from you guys any help is appreciated I am just confused with the forms and stuff

hi there! maybe i can share some info. Nevada BON requires credentials evaluation service report from CGFNS. processing time is 3 to 4 months if your documents are complete. having a US address speeds up the mailing time but not necessarily the processing time.

when Nevada BON approves your application, you can sit for the exam even without the SSN but I read a message by someone (based on his experience with Nevada BON) that, after you pass, Nevada BON will not issue a license card/number unless you give an SSN. You will be given only one year from date of application (not date of passing NCLEX) to give an SSN. Otherwise, you need to submit a new application with new fingerprint cards (but you will not be required to take the exam again).

as you know, without a license number/card, you might find it also difficult/impossible to endorse to another state (as there is no license to endorse).

the suggestion is to have your initial licensure in a state that will issue a license card/number without the need for an SSN.
