As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Can anyone please help me with my situation, Im sort of lost or should I say out of the circulation regarding the updates of my application to NY-BON.
It has been seven (7) months ago since I sent my application to NY-BON, together with my applications for CVS and Visascreen. (I took suzannes advice) I only realized that it has been this long since I last sent when my friend who applied to NJ-BON told me that she already recieved her att and it only took her 3 months!
I was hopeful that in 4 months time since my application I would sit for NCLEX, but it has been seven months and I haven't heard from them yet. Now im beginning to think that something has gone wrong... I did everything right with regards to payment and applications and since I sent it, CGFNS has notified me through email and by checking the status of my application in their website that they recieved my documents and payments and all other necessary or required docs are ready for review. The last note was last february that all docs are ready for review... how long does it take for them to review my documents?
the last entry on the correspondences section of my status in cgfns is FINAL NOTIFICATION TO NEW YORK - Standard Ground mail.. what does that mean???
I don't know what to do next... should I wait again? I believe I've waited too long and should take action. Please lend me your advise so I could get out of this dilemma...
Do I need to register to pearson vue to take the nclex already? because I read in the nclex handbook that I should register to pearson vue first and pearson vue (PV) will inquire from NY-BON if Im eligible to take NCLEX-RN, and NY-BON will notify PV as to my eligibility to sit for exam, and when that happens, PV will send my ATT? is that the works???? Should NY-BON contact me first to let me know I am eligible before I register? which is which??? oh, please can anyone enlighten me... im so frustrated....

Yes, you can already apply with PearsonVue for your ATT. NY-BOn will only send you notice of your eligibility but it's PearsonVue that will send out your ATT.
You may register with pearsonvue online and it usually takes around a month (or less) to have your ATT. For all you know, you might be already eligible with NY-BON but still don't have your ATT cz you haven't applied with PearsonVue.
PearsonVue will contact the BON where you applied for to determine your eligibility.
Hey Speedtec. Sorry to doubt your advice, but could someone reconfirm that one can proceed to make arrangements with Pearson Vue even without receiving an eligibility to test from their respective BON's? I don't exactly remember where, but I have read in one of these stickies that one should not begin to register with Pearson Vue until one has his eligibility to test in his hand, or at least a confirmation from the BON that the latter already mailed the eligibility to test. Thanks so much in advance for any clarification.
Hi lakwatsero, I missed to take into account the country of origin of Mountaineer. Lest I stand corrected, let me clarify that as per personal experience here in the US, I didn't have to wait for the BON's go-signal before I registered with PearsonVue. Fact is, agents from PearsonVue encouraged me to register as soon as I could to facilitate the swift processing of my application. Long before my BON notified me of my eligibility, PearsonVue had already released my ATT.
I'm not sure if it works the same way for international test takers. My apologies for the oversight.
Perhaps test takers from the Philippines can share their input regarding Mountaineer's query?
I think for foreign trained Rns it's much safer to just wait for your eligiibility letter or sometimes when you call up or email the BON they themselves will give you the go-signal to register to pearsonvue and they won't send the letter anymore because they already gave you the go-signal thru phone. This doesn't always happen though and maybe isolated to cases or applicants whose eligibility letter was long over-due.
One more thing, pearson-vue won't issue the ATT if the BON didn't transmit your data to them. In fact, the data you provided in registering in pearsonvue must match the data transmitted to them by your BON for pearson to issue you the ATT. But you can surely register and get a receipt/acknowledgement that says you paid the fee and is now registered with pearson-vue. The ATT will only come when the BON have transmitted your data to pearson. It's not advisable to register w/o being sure of being approved yet (eligibility letter) or have a go-signal from your BON (email or phone).

it's confusing what to do next after sending all the application and payments. waiting for the eligibility sounds more sensible but, waitng for 7 months for it is a very long wait, which makes me want to go ahead and register to PV as soon as I can.

mountaineer.....i also applied for NY BON....after CGFNS sent my CVS to NYBON, it took about 3 weeks for them to evaluate my transcript and license before they gave me the go signal to register for Pearson vue.....
i strongly recommend to wait for eligibility before registering for the BON where you applied....some issues do crop up like lack of hours for certain subjects....

Forgot to add: It takes about a month for PearsonVue to process your registration. So if you wait for your eligibility from your BON before registering, that's another month of waiting (probably even more for those based in the Philippines). Whereas if you register with PearsonVue right away, the time spent waiting for your eligibility and the ATT happen at the same time, so the moment the BON notifies PearsonVue of your eligibility, your ATT would have been ready by then. That way, not another month is wasted and you get your ATT sooner. ;-)

It has never taken Pearson-Vue one month to process any application. They need to wait for approval to be given by the state before they can let you do anything.
For any foreign student, never register with Pearson-Vue until you get approval from the BON, or you know for a fact that you are. If something gets delayed, and for some reason you are unalbe to take the exam, during a certain period of time, if you have paid, you lose the money, and that is $350 if you are taking it overseas.
Why the rush to register with Pearson-Vue? You cannot schedule an exam time or date until the state gives permission for you to so.
For those of you that want to jump the gun, and register ahead. Please be my guest, but do not complain later when you have lost that money.
