i was also worrying about my hep titers. i had my hep b series 20 yrs ago, and have always gotten different answers to the question, do they wear off? i had mine all drawn last week and asked the lab girl. she said that i should still have antibodies present but i will probably need a hep booster. which is a big relief !
I stated earlier that I had my titers done for school, and ALL my Hep b came back non-reactive...needless to say I'm freakin' out. My job is saying they'll give me them but I don't have enough time for all three. Of course school is closed today so I can't call and my doctors office told me they won't go over my results until my physical which isn't for a few weeks! I don't know what to do!!
I was terrified of having to deal with my Hep B series. I had the first of 3 in high school almost 15 years ago. Got head to toe hives. My Dr at the time told me that I was at low risk of infection and if that ever changed, I could get the other two but it would have to be in the ER. Needless to say, finding out I needed immune status to get into school scared me spitless!
We did my titres a few weeks ago - and I'm actually immune. Can't remember the numbers my doc gave but if memory serves, anything over 10 was immune and I was at about 20. Don't remember the units.
If in doubt - have your titres done

As long as you have started the series you should be ok for work or school. The Hep B series takes six months to complete. Check the CDC immunization web site for info. The only problem I can see is if you are required to have the series completed before work or school. Good luck
I had the series done at 12 or 13 yrs. When I had to have my titers done it showed I had not sero-converted. I had to do the series again and it worked this time. However, if I did not convert I would have had to do the series 1 more time and if still did not convert I believe I would have had to sign off on something. It does not prevent you from starting nursing school whatsoever. You just need to start the vaccines and stay on schedule. One of my Prof. had never converted so she is just at an increased risk, obviously.

i'm starting a program and they want a test to show positive for my hep b titers.
i had the full 3 shot series 17 years ago, and about 8 months ago i got part 1 & 2.
i should show positive for them now that i just boosted them up, right?
thanks!
