Young Nurses

I'm old and a nurse... does that count? Age does have alot to do with the maturity level of what we do, but frankly, out of the 30 students that were in my nursing class, over 3/4's of us were all over 25.

I graduate in 5 weeks and I am 18. I've been a CNA since I was around 16 I feel kinda awkward about my age because I know peope's perception of 18 year olds and so I'm sure there's many people who are like "He's 18 and he's going to be a nurse!" but oh well, I'm doing what I love and that's what matters.

I was 21 when I first became a nurse. It does seem like there are more and more younger nurses out there.

Well I suppose you could say I am definitely one of the younger nurses in my class im 20 btw...I am graduating in 4 weeks:) It has been an interesting endeavour to say the least but I have learned alot and I wouldn't trade it for the world...:)

Be thankful you found your calling early, it took me going into the service, finding one path that looked right and following it for a while to realize that it wasn't where I wanted to be in life. By choosing and sticking to your schooling, you will show a degree of maturity that far exceeds your peers from high school. Trust in the fact that you are entering a great field that helps others and you will have a lifetime of being able to enjoy your job, even if at times it aggravates you. Because the alternative is "do you want fries with that?" lol...

Dude, just cause your 18 doesn't mean your not a grown up, it just means your young, but there were very few of the younger one's that were in my nursing class that made it out of the first quarter of school, simply because they were young, stupid, and didn't keep to their studies and didn't care, and obviously you guys aren't those types of students. Once your licensed, it won't matter how old you are, it'll matter what you have in your head and in your wallet (ie license) Any reference to your age is just either jealousy that you did it early, or jealousy that you were able to do it early and reap the rewards earlier on than the rest of us. I just wished I'd known at 18 that this is what I was meant to do, I'd be in a very different place if I had of. Good luck to you all, 18 or 50...

I'VE BEEN A CNA SINCE I WAS 16 TOO ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T WORK BECAUSE I WAS GOIN FOR MY LPN AND I WAS STILL IN SCHOOL. YEAH PEOPLE ARE SHOCKED WHEN I TELL THEM I'M A NURSE AT MY AGE, IT'S KINDA LIKE YOUR KIDDIN BUT OF COURSE YOUR NOT! HEY HOW GREAT IS IT TO BE YOUNG AND IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE, KEEP UP DA GOOD WORK, STUDY HARD AND GOOD LUCK!

AND VERY THANKFUL I AM, ''DO U WANT FRIES WITH THAT''- MY TEACHERS ALWAYS USED TO PUSH US TO DO OUR LPN PARTIALLY BECAUSE OUR PEERS WOULD BE FLIPPIN BURGERS AND WE DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT. I LOOK UP TO U EXPERIENCED NURSES KEEP ON LEADIN THE WAY AND MAY GOD BLESS, THANX FOR DA ENCOURAGEMENT!

Well my opinion is, it doesn't matter how old you are, can you do the job and be effective at it, some old nurses who've been doing it umpteen years can't, so who's to say that a young kid with everything going for them and the newest schooling can't? If it were that hard no one would be able to be a nurse. You guys will do great! Just keep at it, don't give up and never let anyone put you down just because you are young and know what it is that you want to do with your life. You have to grow a thick skin in this arena in the first place, don't let something petty like the number in the age box deter you from doing a wonderful job of caring for the sick/dying. Besides, if your a good nurse, it don't matter how old you are... it just matters that you can do the job and do it well.

I am 43 and just graduated as an LPN. In my class of about 40, maybe 5 were under the age of 25. The "kids" were so fun to be around and their energy and enthusiasm was very contagious and helpful! I loved it! I am "young at heart" myself and look much younger then I am. Don't let people discourage you or make you feel inadequate or anything. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I heard alot of "Why are you doing this NOW? " and nearly all of my classmates who were over 40 heard alot of negative comments made to us. I think it's great that those of you who are younger know what you want to do with your life at this time. You can always go back and do something else if you don't like it.

I am 24 and the youngest one in my class is 21
