You paid HOW MUCH for nursing school??!!

I can't believe some of the outrageous tuitions I see people paying on this site! My school costs about 1700 a semester not including any extras or books. I cant imagine paying 40,000 or more. Are people paying this much bc they can't get into cheaper colleges?? Whats going on..?

Some people pay for a Rolls Royce instead of a Toyota. Both have a motor vehicle. In the same respect, both people have a chance to take the nursing NCLEX, whether they attended a reasonably priced school or one of the expensive schools. I say, more power to them. At least they have the degree and take NCLEX. Better than sitting around bemoaning the fact that one can't get admitted to one of the more desirably priced programs.

My private school's sticker price is over $45k per year (2 semesters).. after grants, loans, and a scholarship, my out of pocket total due comes out to around $18-20k per year. At a 4 year school, it's close to $80k total. I'm very, very lucky to have supportive parents, who pay that amount. I will graduate with approx $25k in loans next May.

Why did I choose my college? It is close to my hometown, close to good city hospitals that they use for clinicals, and has one of the best programs in the state. I wanted a BSN, and nothing less, so that automatically knocked out any CC in the area (there are a few near me).

My only other options were the public U, which I did not hear good reviews about as far as the way the run their program, choosing classes, when cohorts began clinical rotations, etc. ....or another public U an hour or more away.

Yes, it is a lot of money, but I am willing to pay to receive a 4-year Bachelor's degree from a highly-respected college and an excellent program (with a consistently great NCLEX pass rate) rather than an Associate's, and return to school later for a Bachelor's (honestly, I don't think I'd be motivated enough to go back to school after going through one nursing program!) :twocents:

Honestly, I wasn't trying to start a debate about ADN and BSN..just the amount some people are willing to pay to go to a for profit school that's not accredited. :)

I marginally take offense to this - my BA degree is in communications -

Sorry to offend, but believe me when I tell you I've got a much more useless degree than was listed in the PP. So I make my comment standing at the bottom of the hole, not looking in and judging. If that helps any. Probably not. I've just noticed a lot of "liberal arts" degrees in my program with me. I'd be interested in the actual breakdown on return learners and their previous degrees.

For real. I read some of these costs and I nearly squawk! My tuition is around $800 a semester and I can usually get all my books online for around $200 or usually less.

My tuition at a public university is around 4k/semester, but thank goodness I have a scholarship covering 4 years. I am just starting my upper division/clinical part (last 2 years of the BSN) and fees just this first semester added up to around $1800! I don't know about you all, but when I got my list of everything I had to buy, and was informed I had about 2 weeks to get it all, I was a little shocked, haha.

Dang, and I thought we got nickle and dimed to death!

I'm honestly kind of embarrassed about the amount of debt I have. Student loan debt scares me. It's not awful -

I am currently attending a CC but when i put in my application the fall it will be issue for both ADN,BSN program..really more interested in ADN because of funds. i work as a CNA and everyday the nurses cry about how the loan they are paying back could be morgage.

My CC is about $1500 per semester for 3/4 time. My employer pays what the VA doesn't cover, and will pay for my RN-BSN. It will take me 5.5 years, 6-11 credits per semester and I will have a debt of $0.

My CC does clinicals at a little Top 100, Magnet status hospital called Yale. I don't know I hope it's a good education?

I envy you. My CC is about the same price as yours; all of the loans I have were taken out to help pay living expenses. That's what happens when you have a family headed by two full-time students. :o

I've got some considerable loans that I accrued while getting my first, and evidently useless, degree. I try not to think about them... :D
