they have called at least 4 times begging for help........
Sigh....we are going to get beat up AGAIN tonight. Hoping this is not the new normal.
-You get there and the assignment hasn't been made because the charge nurse is too busy.-There is a collection of charts with new orders that haven't been noted waiting on you.
-You see a revolving door of family going in and out of one of your patient's room.
-Report starts off with "Well you got 3 with lap belts on..."
LilMmamma - what's a lap belt? Is this used in psych?
When you get a call before you even leave your house w/ a frantic voice at the other end of the phone " Ummm.. we need you NOW!" and you walk into L&D full, post-partum full... preemie getting ready to get shipped b/c you don't have a nicu & the baby has to be bagged the whole time your waiting on the transport team... BAD DAY!.... VERY BAD DAY.
When theres a crash cart pulled into one of the rooms, and noone is to be seen. Orders are flagged, and charts untouched, and all of the wheeled chairs have kind of conglomerated in the middle of the station...like its a black leather chair herd. Someone runs into the station harried and breathless, and you automatically assume that theyve been in the room with the bright red cart. No she says, "Ive been in such and such room pt has been bad all day, we are getting ready to start nimbex and put in a line for CVVH. Why? Whats going on in the room with the cart??" LOL.

when the dayshift charge nurse can't count, downstaffed you 2 RN's, you've got almost everyone vented, on CRRT, too many VAD's to count, the fresh post-op rolling in early is bleeding out..and oh, by the way....someone is now starting to code. And all the dayshift charge says: "oops, oh well!" I kid you not. Dante's inferno has had NOTHING on us!
