So I have a question for you all that I thought might be a fun but disturbing topic? What's the most babbling thing you have seen a medical professional do or say? During my clinical rotation as a student nurse I was in the room with an RT who thought he was funny and was telling the nonverbal but alert pt that she was ugly and her face was hideous. I was in shock and being a young nursing student (19) I really didn't know how to react to that and kept my mouth shut. Now I would have snapped. Looking back I wish I had the courage to say something.
What a witch....no wonder he could be combative. When I was 18, another CNA and I were helping a confused man to bed. He was usually sweet but could get combative; the combative behaviors had been escalating lately. Well this night, he was tired and very cooperative, and of course I was explaining to him what we were doing. Once he was tucked in bed w/o a fight, this other CNA (who was old enough to know better!! Upper 40s)....petted him on the head like a dog and said, "Good boy!":banghead:

I know, she was lucky she didn't get decked for her behavior...I know *I* felt like it.
Oh she was a piece of work!! She didn't last much longer after that incident. She had all sorts of physical ailments and was endlessly complaining about them, even to LTC residents. I mean I felt bad for her being in pain, but there are certain people who just don't need to hear it...the LTC residents you're being paid to care for are probably top among those people.
Think you were going for "baffling"... great thread anyhow.Back in the day when we used needles to access IV lines for piggybacks, one had slipped out.
I watched a nurse pick it up off the FLOOR and calmly stick it back in the line.
Ahh yes that's the word I was looking for. Ah that's disgusting.
