I'm about a decade younger, but I also have three children. I can't say I was ever a huge science lover, but my first A&P class (taken sinoly as a science elective before i even considered health care) changed that. I wanted to learn and know EVERYTHING about the human body, and I accidentally discovered a passion. So don't count yourself out. If you really don't enjoy your prereqs, then maybe I'd pick another path.
I can't lie...going to school while you have a bunch of kids isn't easy. Without a support system, I'd say it's impossible for some. It's all about time management and dedication! I'm incredibly grateful to have a husband who is supportive of my goals and is a good daddy who doesn't mind taking over kid duty after a long day at work so I can do school stuff.
Anyway, many, many people have done it. A lady in our school's last graduating class had NINE kids. I'd say go for it and see where life takes you!
I am 39 years old. I will start the BSN program this August. I had to take 2 years of pre-reqs, so when I start this fall I will be starting my third college year. I am married with 4 children ages 15, 12, 8, and 3. My husband works full-time and I go to school full-time. I decided to leave my part-time job to be a student and to spend time with my kids. I'm very happy with my decision to go to school. I was originally afraid that I would be the oldest student in class, and that I would'nt be able to grasp the curriculum. However, as it turned out my grades are much better than I could have hoped, and although I am older than most of the other students, there are usually a few that are the same age or older. I was terrified of math classes, but have found that I actually enjoy math now :) Taking care of a home, children, and going to school is tough...but it IS doable! Good luck in whatever you decide. :)
I am in a BSN program and there is a 27 yr old with 4 kids all under 10. She is doing extremely well in the program and the key to that she says is a great support system. A lot of her motherly duties has been delegated to others in her family and why it may be painful, it is only for 2 yrs. We are already down 1 yr. So it is doable! Good luck to you.
I'm 38 with 7 kids. If you want it go for it. I don't know. I woke up one morning and thought about my life. I have had no regrets except for not getting my nursing degree. I didn't want to look back with any could have, should have, would haves. I'm juggling, but so far I am doing it. I am still totally nervous that something is going to go wrong, but for now I just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
I'm 31 with 3 kids, ages 7, 4 and 8 months. I decided to become a nurse a little over a hear ago and still have another year of prereqs before I will be able to apply for the BSN program here. Having a good support system is important, but even if you don't, it is still doable. I have had to sacrifice a lot to do this. I don't have any leisure time and I never see my friends, my house is usually a mess because cleaning takes a back seat, and sometimes my oldest has to help out with the other kids (thank God he actually likes doing that). I've had to become very regimented with my schedule so that I can still be a good and present mother but get my school work done and maintain a high GPA. Becoming a nurse is hard work and takes sacrifice no matter what your status, but it comes with great reward. The question is are you willing to work your a** off for the short term in order to reap the benefits in the long term?

I really would love to get into nursing but I am concerned it may be too difficult for me. Is there anyone else in the same boat that is older and has kids and is thinking of becoming a nurse? I am absolutely terrified of the prerequisits and biology and chemistry are not stong points for me.
