I have a 4 year old boy who was just recently diagnosed of hyperactivity syndrome, the pedia specialist said due to his age she wont say ADHD yet.But it is the same thing isn't.I know something is different from my child compared to his cousins and other kids because he is always on the go and never stopped telling stories, but hearing those words from the specialist really broke my heart. My tears were unstoppable during that hour session.
Now we are enrolled in a therapy school for behavioral modification in caloocan x2 week.It is very expensive and slashed our budget greatly.
Due to his behavior more often than not we lost our emotions and composure and scolded him, worst spanked him.We tried the naughty corner or 4 mins time out with no effect at all.Is there any mom or dad who are in the same boat as ours, how do you deal with yours??

I'm not on the same as to where you are in, but I do pray to give you strength and patience towards your boy. And hopefully someone here can help you. There's a reason for everything...Trust in Him...
God bless....

I would get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from more doctors.
In USA many kids get diagonesed with ADD and are put on ritalin, which in turns them into zombies. Sadly, many of these kids are just being kids.
I would look at your childs diet, stay away from Fast Food and high carb foods.
As for me, I promise you if I was taken to a doctor as a child they would of said I had ADHD. I call it just being a kid. I also use it to my advantage.
I was an over achiever in sports in my youth, and now as an adult, I have the gift of gab, and do very well in sales, and I would say I still have ADHD in adult form.
Good Luck, just remeber your child is only 4 years old.

i too knew by age 4 that my youngest son was different from his cousins and peers. at age 6, he was diagnosed as inattentive type adhd and started on ritalin. when he was about 9, told me that he had too many thoughts jumbled up in his head & didn't know which one to listen too, but that the medication helped him clearly think. by age 16 he weaned himself off the medication as focus greatly improved. he just completed as program and back in school for bs degree.
listening to the pediatrician and educational experts made a huge positive difference in his life. for some medication along with behavioral cueing helps. sporting activity like soccer seems to help too get out excess energy. seeing a confident young man he has become we are so excited by his transformation---with a lot of love from my parents and his dad thrown in to support him during the difficult times.
your not alone, they are many resources to help you.

On proper doses, medication does not turn children or anyone else into zombies. If at some point you choose to try that route, I would just caution you to see a developmental pediatrician or child psychiatrist with specific experience in treating children with ADHD (assuming your child eventually even gets that diagnosis). It is a big decision to make.
As for other strategies for helping children with inattention, you might like to visit www.chadd.org Some of the fact sheets available there are specific to the educational rights of children in the U.S., but others are general and could be helpful to parents of children anywhere.

Exercise and sports is my medication as well.
I also played soccer from age 5 to well past my college years, and even now of days, I go to a gym 4 days a week.
Exercise helps me focus, I hope you can solve your childs problems with out medication.

Good advice here to get QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL advice and thanks to those posters who included links.
I would caution you to be careful - unfortunately educators and others are calling especially boys with normal boy behavior, ADHD.
Definitely try to get your son into sports or martial arts. Something that can diffuse and direct the physical activity. No tv.
I wish you the best.

We are not able to offer medical advice on this Bulletin Board in the first place. It is against the Terms of Service of this site.
This is something that needs the input of your pediatrician for your child, or the provider of their care.
Best of luck to you and your son.
