Congrats to all the new IV starters! Isn't it a great feeling???
Tweety - I had a similar experience. My school didn't let us practice on each other, and rarely on patients. Then in hospital orientation I wasn't allowed to take the IV class because I was going to NICU. So my first IV start was six months after I started working...on my birthday no less! I had an admission, a 3 pound 30-week preemie, and got the IV on the first stick! Ten minutes later, I got the arterial stick as well for the labs!!!
Since then, I think I only get 1 out of every 10 IV's I try for. Still get almost every art stick though!

I just wanted to share a personal triumph, I started my first IV today with success on the first stick . I was so nervous
, but it went in so smoothly!!
We are rotated through peri-op so that we can get experience with IV starts, I hope tou all have success when your time comes!!!
