WoW..got turned down by Banner

Published

Specializes in Trauma, ER, ICU~CCRN,CNRN.

This is a first for me! In all my years in nursing I've never heard of such a thing. Is this the way nursing is progressed? Is it really becoming this competitive? Or is it that my pay scale would be to high?

I've been playing phone tag with 3 of their recruiters who couldn't give me any information about the position I applied for and one said he didn't even see it listed anymore :icon_roll Not sure I would have been happy there anyway, but they sent me an email telling me I was turned down! I thought that was a bit unprofessional. :angryfire

I'm going to ask them why, but I have a feeling it may have something to do with my relocating in May.

I also got turned down by Mayo clinic after a phone interview. I thought it went well, but guess not!

Luckily I did accept a position in the ICU at St. Joe's ;)

EDIT/UPDATE:

Talked to the recruiter at Banner, and they are hiring "internally" and new grads! So there we go...

Specializes in Cardiac.

Wow! So Banner is only interested in new grads?

I sure wouldn't want to work there.

Wow! That stinks but I hear St Joe's is an awesome hospital to work for and I rarely hear complaints from their nurses.

Good Luck!

I have a friend that left Banner when she moved away and she could not get back in right away so she's at St Joes in L&D. I asked her if she liked it and she said "no". She said that she liked Banner much much better. One day, I will ask her more.

Sorry that you did not get hired on, that really sucks.

Really? I don't hear to many negative things about St Joe's, but every place has there bad side:o.

So true!

It also depends on the area. I know L&D is a tough place to work...not my forte' either! :coollook:

I'm really looking forward to this new adventure!

I will see you there! The Banner recruiters took more than a month to call me back. I think the current "recession" has definitely hurt the nursing job market.

You're working at St. Joe's or Banner?

I'm going to be at Barrow's Neuro ICU on night shifts! YAY! :yeah:

Specializes in NICU.

Good decision on going with Joes ..... CHW is a great company to work for.

I think a lot of the big hospitals go through spurts where they hire new grads or experienced nurses. I know where I work, they hired a ton of new grads at one point .... and then quit hiring new grads for a while and were only hiring experienced nurses. I guess it's a way to keep the ratio where it needs to be.

Congrats to all of you that got new jobs at St. Joes!!

St. Joes, MICU!

Specializes in cardiac/education.

What is up with St. Joes' Neuro ICU? Seems like they hire ALL THE TIME. I wonder if many new grads start up there and find it so overwhelming and leave. They have a very high turnover there...either that or just a huge amt of staff RN's.....

I worked very briefly at St. Joe's in their Neuro Med-Surg and I have to say it was very nice. Other than the typical problems with nursing, I had no complaints about the floor itself.....absolutely beautiful!! :) I hate how the hand soap smells at St. Joe's though..LOL...and the sewer smell is everywhere..

Good Luck. I think you'll like it!:heartbeat

So wait, you applied for a position, you werent accepted for the job you applied for and this automatically means that nursing is in shambles? I don't understand the logic honestly - many people apply for jobs everyday and get turned down. With regard to them sending you an email turning you down, would you prefer a phone call? whatever the medium, not everyone that applies for a position is not going to get that position, the world does not work that way. Banner has a superior and efficent way to aplply for jobs in my opinion - its the best system I have seen... I wouldn't take things so personally and jump to conclusions - just my opinion - Good luck at Saint Joes, though they like to low ball people on salary imo.
