Would you quit over white uniforms?

Nurses General Nursing Nursing Q/A

If your facility went back to white uniforms for licensed nursing personnel, would you quit? Just wondering as I've heard discussions about some facilities going back to all white for nursing staff.

Well I think that is kind of trivial to quit your job because they are going back to the attire that nurses originally wore, don't you?

You mean rolling back the progress nurses have made over the last 30 years.

I can't decide if this post is terrifyingly obtuse or brilliantly sarcastic....

I laughed so I'm going with brilliantly sarcastic.

Well, I cringed so I'll go with terrifyingly obtuse.

Honestly, I LOVE nail polish, dresses, and white. So... maybe I'd love the white uniform code. Even if it meant crisp dresses and all! Problem is, 12 hour shifts leave you DRAINED. I wear royal blue Greys Anatomy scrubs that don't wrinkle and require no fuss, so... it's easy to get dressed for work. Yeah, I'm picky about my nails, so I usually touch them up and make sure my coat is clean. Then I grab 2 diet cokes, kiss my husband and daughter goodbye, and head out the door for the night. Makeup and hair is done in the car quickly AFTER parking at work and while listening to my daily Bible (inspirational) podcast.

I'm sorry... being a nurse doesn't mean that you have to give up being female. It SHOULDN'T anyways.

White is a NICE color, if you can wear it responsibly. I love Greys Anatomy scrubs in royal blue, but I have NO idea how they work out in white. White can be worn irresponsibly, easily. I've seen African nurses wear white scrubs with white undies at my previous job. No.... that does NOT work. If white is the mandate for your workplace, match your undies with your skintone.

Regardless... look at the BRIGHT side ;) XD The patient will CLEARLY identify you as a nurse.

Whenever I contemplate the white scrubs mandate I can't help thinking about this guy, no matter what size or gender he or she is.

I too wonder how so many nursing myths are still making the rounds.

I think people are missing the truth about the authority a nurse used to represent while focusing on such things as white uniforms and caps. I always thought the old white lace-up shoes with heels meant "I could kick your a** if I had to".

I think those Nursemates with the little blue hearts sent the wrong message.

I have yet to find any OB/GYN who will do that surgery for me... and I have asked every single one I have ever met. It's not that easy to get a hysterectomy!

But seriously, maybe I am in the minority, but I don't mind color-coded scrubs. I have worn ceil blue, navy blue, forest green, and teal at various jobs. What I DO mind is white!

Uterine Ablation....Soo very worth it for me. It saved me from all the clothing disasters and from the weakness.

"I got 99 problems but a white scrub ain't 1"......:D

Take that back, you just scored a point for the white uniforms! :yuck:

I was aiming for a point for "Let the professionals decide what to wear to work; let's just make sure they have enough of them to do their job safely and well."

How in the world do you graduate with an RN license? Evidently you're not in the US.

Maybe just poor wording? i agree with Ruby, you don't graduate with an RN license. You graduate with a nursing degree, the registered part of RN doesn't come until you pass the NCLEX and your license is issued by whatever state you tested for.

I think the wording of how I described my degree doesn't detract from the topic of the thread. Take your negativity elsewhere.

I don't want to derail the thread, but what negativity? There was none intended.

Not going to bash thongs :D

I see a lot of younger female nurses who wear thongs under their white pants. (Yes, you can see them.) That said, I think it looks worse to wear those and look like you aren't wearing any underwear, rather than simply wear full-coverage panties. I would rather look like I have a panty-line, than look like I am naked underneath my scrub pants.

Except they don't look like they're wearing nothing. They look like they're wearing ass floss, because you can still see a panty line just in a different place.

And don't even get me started on when their pants won't stay on their waist. I think if you insist on flashing me your thong, it should be legal for me to throw darts at the target.
