OMG...19 patients on a short term floor. NO IVs, NO trachs, NO Gtubes.., no sick people.mostly ortho.
Nurses on 11-7 whining because they were told they were going to have ONE nurse. Really??? you can't manage 19 stable residents on 11-7? You have 2 CNAs...really? I don't get it.

Tsk-tsk. I'm too "crusty old bat" to have sympathy. Back in the day I had 50 with 2 aides on 11-7 and the back of the hall was referred to as the vegetable patch due to the number of tubes and trachs.

My first LTC job after I separated from service was on 11-7 at a 120 bed facility divided into 3 wings with a total of 5 aides for the whole building....and me. This was back in the days of bulk bottle meds for controlled drugs. I remember narc count literally took almost 45 minutes because of the need to pour out all those pesky little phenobarbs and tylenol #3s, etc into the count trays. I would have killed.....killed I tell ya lol....to only have 19 patients on 1 wing with a fellow nurse & 2 aides. Yep I be a crusty and rusty old bat glaring at the youngens whining.

I would die of happiness if that's what my shift assignment looked like.

I don't remember complaining when I was assigned to work in the hallway with 21 residents and the two best CNAs in the building on night shift. It beat having 80 residents and 2 CNAs, or being lone nurse with one CNA for 52 residents. Some people don't know when they have it so good.

I wish I had only 19! And if they weren't total care? I have 50 and almost all total cares! 19 would be a dream come true.

I worked 80 stable with 2 aides, and 130 stable but needy(!) with 5 aides. Now in the hospital nights are 2 nurses, that's it, no coverage for breaks, often we dont get them during our shift.

Our nurses have 60 patients per nurse with 3 aides on nights. approx 15 would be skilled, all should be relatively stable with the possibility of 1 or 2 issues as far as crashing. That, to me, is too much- but it is what it is... I'd kill to have 30 per nurse on nights, 20 on days, but such it is..
We have 32 long term and skilled mixed...One nurse/2 aids. 19 would be heaven!

To me we seem over staffed, which is great, but with this level of staffing, should I still hear moaning and groaning about being understaffed and still be getting excuses for why things aren't done?
I wouldn't call 3 aides for 37 residents overstaffed....and why different staffing on Saturday and Sunday? My 46 bed units have 6 CNAs on days, 5 on evenings, and 3 on nights.
