OMG...19 patients on a short term floor. NO IVs, NO trachs, NO Gtubes.., no sick people.mostly ortho.

Nurses on 11-7 whining because they were told they were going to have ONE nurse. Really??? you can't manage 19 stable residents on 11-7? You have 2 CNAs...really? I don't get it.

No showers on Sundays. I am new to this facility and this is how they have it set up. I was thinking the day shift was overstaffed

I wouldn't call 3 aides for 37 residents overstaffed....and why different staffing on Saturday and Sunday? My 46 bed units have 6 CNAs on days, 5 on evenings, and 3 on nights.

Coming from a younger CNA, this staffing is awesome! Especially in LTC. With 46 beds (assuming all have patients/residents in them) and 6 CNAs on days. This allows the day CNAs to give a good bath ( the CNA is able to see maybe a start of pressure sore that would have been overlooked if they were rushing), make sure all patients/residents are changed every two hours, and time to feed and get them up into a wheel chair instead of staying in bed all day.

Do you work for a non-profit? I work for a for-profit and it's 10:1 on days, 13:1 on evenings and 20:1 on nights. Management will give me NO MORE. Period. End of discussion

Me?It is a for profit company. With all the competition in the area, the SNFs that provide good/great/excellent care are the ones who will do well. Word travels...if you had a new hip and had to wait 10 minutes for your call light to be answered, you'd tell your friends it was an awful place. If, on the other hand, the building is well staffed, you'd tell your friends your call light was answered promptly and your needs were met....so....when they have their hip replaced they'll come to my facility. It's pretty simple. And, this company gets the residents what they need and still manages to make a profit.

Wow I wish more places thought like you! As the nurse I have a better ratio then some 1:25-30 but the aides aren't as lucky. Also they fail to take acuity into account. I help out as much as I can but when almost the entire hallway is two assists with a lot of behaviors it really makes it hard to get things done in a timely manner.

(Depending on the type residents,) I might agree that it's a bit light but 1 nurse to 37 residents is too heavy.

Shoot, when I worked LTC, if I had 19 patients, I would be bringing the wine AND cheese! I had 28-30, 2 g-tubes (trachs go on medicare hall). I'm telling you, I still think new grads should start in LTC.
