Would you get the vaccine if/when they develop one?

I would get the vaccine, wear droplet protection when appropriate, limit my exposure as much as possible, and wash wash wash my hands.

Although I always get a flu shot, I would wait because I am a little worried about a vaccine that is rushed to market.

I am healthy and I can most likely endure the flu at this point so I would wait. If I was high risk though then I might have a different opinion.

Doubtful.

I'm never among the first to line up for any new vaccine or drug.

I'll leave the guinea pig role to someone else.

I got it last time in 76 while in Boot Camp. Guess that won't help me now :uhoh21:

Vaccine for Type A, H1N1 Planned

About that vaccine, WHO announced at the May 1st press update that they were most likely going to proceed with a vaccine for the new type A, H1N1 virus. The seasonal flu vaccine for the northern hemisphere for the fall is currently being produced. They will continue with that process. Meanwhile, CDC is producing the seed strain for the new vaccine that will be distributed to vaccine manufacturers across the globe. They will have to test in ferrets, and have human trials. They expect all of this to take 4 to 6 months minimum. Manufacturers will donate vaccine to WHO for distribution to poor countries also. I believe that is part of the deal for receiving the seed strain from CDC.

Dr. Marie-Paul Kieny of WHO's Initiative for Vaccine Research did an excellent job answering questions. I have come away from every WHO press conference very much impressed with how directly they answer questions over there. Very little turfing of questions unlike CDC has been doing.

Not to knock the CDC too much though as not only are they providing the vaccine seed strain, they have also developed the primers for the flu test kits for the US and also some other countries as well.

The update lasted about one hour and a transcript will be available probably by tomorrow.

If they roll one out and this thing is really spreading I would. I have already had the flu once this year and can't afford to miss any of my summer for another round.

I get a flu shot every year because I'm high-risk due to asthma (and now age as well), plus I work among a very vulnerable population. If and when they come out with a swine flu vaccine that doesn't kill more patients than the disease itself, I'll definitely take it............I don't have the time to be sick!

After the 1976 debacle? I'd wait awhile and see how the vaccine panned out...
