If you had it to do it over again would you become a nurse? Would you rather persue another occupation?
Yes
Somtimes work can get stressful, but I think there is stress in any job. Nursing school (BSN) was quite a task, that was the most stressful part of my career. I have been a staff nurse (floor nurse) in the same hospital on the same unit for over eight years now. You can always learn something new, but for the most part I say I am one of the unit's most "seasoned" RNs.
I like driving, and tell my wife that being a truck driver would be fun. Just making a delivery, then coming back home, not being on the road more than 8-12 hours. Nursing pays well, and you always have a job. Everyone including my superiors treat me with respect. If I make a mistake, I admit to it and try to learn from it. Whether we are doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists - we are all human and errors can happen from time to time. I found that if you have a positive attitude and not seem stressed, this can help you deal with irate patients and irate families (not one of the things I like about nursing).
Although I have complaints from time to time, and there are policies I don't always fully agree with, I would say yes I would choose nursing again.

Instead, I'm a 46 year old RN to BSN student who doesn't know what to be when he's told old and tired to run up and down the med-surg hallways....and that day is rapidly approaching.
Me too! I'm a 46-year-old RN-to-BSN student. 'Cept I run up and down the ICU hallways. Don't know what I wanna be when I grow up. I love the ICU and I love clinical work but ... do I want to do this when I'm 65? (And with triplet daughters to send to college, I'm going to be working until I'm dead so retirement isn't even IN the picture.) I work with a 67-yr-old nurse who still works fulltime in ICU (she does one 16-hr day and two 12-hr days per week!). Do I wanna be her? I'm not sure....
I definitely wouldn't. The way the healthcare system is and dealing with some malicious patients has jaded me. I definitely would have gone into another profession. My livelihood and time and effort of becoming a nurse are to important to be taken away from due to unsafe pt/nurse rations, lack of resources, and other things.
Okay, what the heck am I getting myself into. Did all of you fall into nursing, or was it something you always wanted to do when you were younger? I've always wanted to be a nurse. I sort of fell into what I am doing now (graphic design), and I'm good at it, and love it, however, I've always wanted to go back and finish my nursing degree... and fulfill my dream. I know it's not going to be easy! But YIKES! I also have some long term goals that shouldn't keep me in one place for too long. I want to work with my RN for a few years, return to school to get my BSN and then eventually my masters... who knows how long after that. I am way interested in working night shifts in Labor and Delivery, because it would work perfectly with my family schedule, and so far it's the most appealing to me. Management sounds like fun too (don't kill me) I just see a lot of room for reform there. I know, a pipe dream, anyway... anyone out there relatively happy with their jobs?

Yes, but I would like to have gone into fresh out of high school and into a BSN program, onto grad school not long after that.
