We are seeing a few threads on working and studying in the UK for a BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care at the Anglia Ruskin University or something similar.
Going this route will not enable you to stay in the UK once you have finished. There are no shortage of carers in the UK and even if you are lucky to get a student visa to the UK you will not find a employer willing to assist you to work as a RN as most if not all NHS trusts state they will not assist in work permit unless the job is on the shortage occupation list. Current guidelines for working in the UK is under review and expected to change in November 2008 to a point system and you must pass an English exam although exceptions if you are from a majority English speaking country. Plus EU requirements are employ own citizen first then EU before anywhere else in the world. If you are caught working illegally in the UK there are consequences for you and also fines for the employer. Student visa requires that you can prove you can support yourself and any dependants that come with your and not rely on the state and not work. Please be aware there are scams around and if any doubt what so ever please contact the British embassy in your country and ask them.
This warns on scams in the UK but also for nurses in Norway http://globalnation.inquirer.net/news/breakingnews/view_article.php?article_id=59397
As to "expect the worst so you will not be dissapointed", I wrote it because that is the truth. I have met some students who were not properly briefed by their agents in the Philippines and they are here very dissapointed. Sad to say but I attended seminars of many agents before coming to the UK and indeed many agents just gives the bright side of the picture.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Many nurses have asked me an opinion on this avenue and I tend to only advise it in cases of those nursing graduates that have not passed the local board exam as it is ultimately the best option for them.
However, what you stated in that the work is not typical nursing duty is completely correct and the core of the reason why a qualified nurse which takes such a position should re-think his/her steps as it can completely prevent a nursing career in the USA for most hospital networks.
I'm curious as to whether you have completed the documentation and processing yourself or if you used an agency/consultancy. If so, which consultancy did you use?
so, why are they still recruiting foreign caregivers? they could just send them home after their contracts expire and hire the new UK grads, then... :loveya:also, i should probably stop using "we" and change it to saying "i" -- as in I just want to try a different place to study for a while and then come back home is that clearer? :loveya:
yeah thats what im doing to. im actualy going on a student visa, my visa was granted.i apllied it myself. i just want a change of environment, to experience the healthcare setting in uk even though only as a student visa. at least it gives me a hand on experience even as a nursing assistant. it will also be an opportunity to observe thier healthcare setup. after my 2 year studies im planning not stay on uk, beacuse of the high standard of living. probably go to nz or ausi until my visa for US will be granted.
who am i to complain for a job below my nursing degree when i have no job for myself. you cant eat or put food on the table for complaining. maybe that's a lot of filipino nurses accept this kind of scheme. a sacrifice for the lesser of two evils.
This is just to warn all Filipino students coming for the UK NVQ in Health & Social Care program. Many , and I mean MANY students who are here are crying their hearts out because they don't have any placement providers. They claim that they were not informed by their agents in the Philippines which is quiet unbelievable. For the info of everyone, a big number of training providers DO NOT provide any placement provider anymore. Therefore, before you leave your country, please make sure to ask your agent and make sure what they offer.
hi all:
i got this email from a job i applied to online. what do you think about it? pls. share your thoughts. im from the philippines. if youre interested about the name of the agency, pm. thanks.
hi guys,
i just want to ask re your application, please fill up the application form and send it back to us via email scan. please do it if you are still interested as slots are quickly filling up. this course starts by march. it is a postgraduate diploma in nursing. it is a work based placement course. you study in one day and work the rest of the week. you are assess on your quality of work. ielts is also required a band of 6.0 since it is a work based placement. it needs by the employer. the good thing about this course is it is a work based placement and a guranteed job for 15 months to 2 years . a chance to be sponsored by a work permit after the course with a salary of £1,500-£2,000 per month. at the moment you guys are lucky as we have a partner institution that will finance part of the tuition fee to all successful applications that will be given an offer letter. in regards to ielts once you get an offer letter, please get an ilets asap as it has a registration of every 10 days in the british council. 6.0 is a very low score anyone can get that. im looking forward to received a copy of your scan copy of passport and your application. fill up the application form and scan email it to us immediately. you already have all the credentials with us, please submit as well yuor passport. you need to submit it tonight or tom. as applications are filing up quickly.
***** is a non fee organization funded by uk and commonwealth universities. we are a support organization we are not an agency. now, you guys are lucky because someone is willing to fund all the ***** students on a partial in the event you have been issued an offer letter. so please paas your application as it is coming to closed soon.
thanks,
If that I'd a copy of the actual email I would be very suspicious. It's grammar and spelling poor for a company email. I would question if your going as a nurse or student because it doesn't mention any nursing registration requirement and to earn what they are suggesting would indicated qualified status.
I think you need to ask lots of questions it sounds fishy to me
There are a lot of opportunities in Australia, that's true.
This is all about priorities though; if your goal is to be a nurse in the UK then do it. However, you should be aware that there will be difficulties and it may not be all peaches and cream like you'd hoped.
However, if your goal is to work in another country and you are just using the UK as a stepping stone to that, then you should re-think your plans and look for another, more secure, route.
if you want to be a nurse in the UK you should have atleast 1 year post registration experience before you can register on their nursing and midwifery council. NVQ will not enable you to register as a nurse in the UK. so i wouldn't really recommend it.
It's worth also remembering that with only one years experience it's unlikely you would fit into the shortage occupation list which would allow you to apply for a work permit
hmm...actually if you want to apply as a student visa, or an ONP course here in the UK either way you will really have to pass hurdles and everything. Sometimes you have to start at the bottom..there is no easy way, its always the hard way..the choice is within you and it depends where your luck and prayers is..

I repeat to those who are thinking of coming to the UK under this NVQ in Health & Social Care program - expect the worst such as cleaning the floor, washing dishes. As what this forum have been saying, you are not coming here to perform nursing duties. I am not trying to encourage or discourage anyone. My desire is to give everyone the correct picture so that when they come here they will not end up crying and regretting. I simply beleive in paying forward.
