We are seeing a few threads on working and studying in the UK for a BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care at the Anglia Ruskin University or something similar.
Going this route will not enable you to stay in the UK once you have finished. There are no shortage of carers in the UK and even if you are lucky to get a student visa to the UK you will not find a employer willing to assist you to work as a RN as most if not all NHS trusts state they will not assist in work permit unless the job is on the shortage occupation list. Current guidelines for working in the UK is under review and expected to change in November 2008 to a point system and you must pass an English exam although exceptions if you are from a majority English speaking country. Plus EU requirements are employ own citizen first then EU before anywhere else in the world. If you are caught working illegally in the UK there are consequences for you and also fines for the employer. Student visa requires that you can prove you can support yourself and any dependants that come with your and not rely on the state and not work. Please be aware there are scams around and if any doubt what so ever please contact the British embassy in your country and ask them.
This warns on scams in the UK but also for nurses in Norway http://globalnation.inquirer.net/news/breakingnews/view_article.php?article_id=59397
:down:Ive oriented in this U.K study program thing i think its a BIG money making scam. The money that you'll be spending here is enough to take the NLCEX, IELTS or even the CRNE you'll be granted a NURSING license if you pass those exam unlike in this U.K program you'll be going back to ZERO to study again it's like downgrading you're self and doing that is basically stupid:crying2:. Come to think of this if you already have a BSN degree and a Local License here in phil then why do you want to study again and waste on this crap. Don't be so desperate to gamble on this:nono:.

I am so sorry that you have had this experience but thank you so much for sharing it with other members of ths site. It is beneficial to hear from someone who has actually experienced the problems that we caution about because it gives validity to what we are saying
The UK is under a hiring freeze, pure and simple. Does not matter what any of these programs promise, the issue is that they have nothing to do with visas for start. Best you could get would be a one year special training just like one gets in the US with the student visa. But in many cases this would not work as you already hold the BSN and this program there is not for the RN either.
If you take the time to think about it, why in the world would you even consider another Bachelor's degree that will not help you in anyway get any further with visas for any country or for you to gain experience as an RN? Actually, you lose out because you will not have current work experience as an RN in the end and this will cost you dearly.
If enough of you would stop getting taken advantage of, then these programs would stop. But as long as they can make money thru scams, they will continue to do so.
You would never consider coming to the US to do a program like this, at least I hope not. So why in the world would you do it in another country, where you will only be taken advantage of?
hello guys,
my friend is getting into that working and studying at uk thing but i'm a little bit skeptical about it so i was trying to find any bit of information about it and i found this site from google, and as a matter of fact i found it really helpful where to start looking for some other helpful informations..
thank you!!
and so far.. like other people said on this forum you can't work in uk while having just a student visa.. i'm from u.s. and i am pretty sure it's the same here unless it's from the school that offers u a part-time..(like librarian..etc) but only on the special occassion. and on top of that, now that we're having a global economic issue.. and as the news said that even uk is affected and now, they're more strict on comming into the country for their preservation concerns..so..with that fact..that made me more skeptical about this whole thing..
i'm hoping there's more information i can gather to share to my friend before she makes her move. i would really appreciate any kind of info's you can share to this matter.
so far..this is what i got..
www.kirsten-student.com/index.php
-- it's what my friend's talking about.. and as you can read they we're just talking about studying and "become a student caregiver in a uk care home and earn £900 a month towards your tuition, living and personal costs to help you complete your studies." hmm.. i'm not quite sure about this.. but they told my friend that they will actually gonna make some money when they get there!! and oh yeah, they can pay their tuition fee installment every month..
more input is really appreaciated.. thank you :)

cost of living will be high and it only says earn £900 towards tuition where is the rest going to come from. also states it will not help you to be able to stay. not sure why anyone would want to spend money doing a course will is aimed at the uk and will not allow you to stay afterwards. as they say most have to leave at the end of training.
hmm, for my taste it smells badly
Have you contacted the British Embassy and asked for advise??
My question, why for Gods sake would it be necessary for a RN to study 3 years to become a caregiver???
The jobs we are talking about is mostly nursing home= care of the elderly.
It says international recognation, yeah where??? I worked in 3 european countries so far, nursing home jobs are a bit different everywhere, often they use nurses some specilized in geriatrics, other have their own training. But you can always be a caregiver as an RN. You might need to update your knowledge but certainly not 3 years studying.
Costs: Have you seen that even a simple 1 day course costs 500£ ?
How much money do they want for the 3 years then???
Are you aware how many hours one has to work for those 900£? We are talking low wages here, they won't pay much. Have they said how much they pay, what kind of jobs they offer?
it stinks!

No. I haven't got around on inquiring on British Embassy. I'm planning on it though.
That's what exactly my question too? Who would do something like that if they're in their right state of mind right? And that's what kind of sense I'm trying to knock it on her.
Also, she said that they told her that she doesn't really need to go to school once she get there, basically it's just a front but they'll be working there. Hmm... For me, it doesn't really adds up. I told her to think about it more and try not to be so hasty about it..
a friend of mine is already in kent, uk working there was as an assistant carer. she's in a student visa and she paid for like 220,000 philippine peso just to get there. the processing of her papers took only 3 months.
i also emailed the british embassy about the study and work programs and here's their reply.
(this reply was from the uk border agency)
dear sir/madam,
thank you for your enquiry.
please be advised that entry clearance in this category must (student)
be obtained before you travel to the united kingdom.
for information about entry clearance applications, appeals and the
permitted hours of work allowed on a student visa, please contact the
british diplomatic post (the high commission, embassy or consulate)
where you will be submitting your application.
contact details for british diplomatic posts can be found on the foreign
& commonwealth office website at:

alternatively, you can visit the comprehensive website of the uk border

and this is from the british embassy in manila.
thank you for your e-mail.
i am afraid that neither the british embassy nor the british council have
authorised any intermediaries to assist recruitment in the uk. with regards
to this, i would not be able to confirm your enquiry about job
vacancies/hiring in the uk.
please be informed that it is not possible for foreign nationals (other than
european community citizens) to work in the united kingdom without a work
permit. these can only be applied for in the united kingdom by the
prospective employer through the home office
(http://www.workpermits.gov.uk), which is the issuing authority for work
permits. the categories of employment for which a work permit may be issued
are extremely limited. unless you already have a prospective employer, you
will not be able to work in britain. also, the costs of a work permit are
usually for the employer's account. if your prospective employer asks you
for money, we advise you to exercise caution as there is the risk of scam.
for further enquiry, please visit the home office website stated above or
e-mail them at: [email protected].
regards,
public affairs officer

i told my friend about these emails but it seems she doesn't care. she told me her pay is 6 pounds per hour which i think is the minimum wage. she's in a student visa for 2 years and she still doesn't even know when she will start her supposed study program there.
my other friends are also applying in the agancy she applied to.
edited by traumarus: please do not include names of people (as in who sent you the email.) this is to protect their privacy. thank you.
Yeah, that's minimum wage, maybe a few p more but not much.Sounds like a big scam to get cheap workers in who won't complain.
Is this the same above mentioned company?

no its a different company. I already told my friend about this but it seems as I said she doesn't care. The most important for her is leaving the country. thats it.

This may not concern nurses per se but I decided to share this article to warn everyone to be careful in choosing agents with whom you deal with.
