  1. Hi Informaniac888: I called up their office and was told that I have to take their exam first. Can you please tell me what questions to expect ? Aside from the membership fee of PHP2,100, I inquired if they (CarelinK) would still deduct a certain amount or percentage from the professional fee I will received from the patient. The lady who answered my call said that this can only be discussed during the interview phase which is, she said, after I have taken the test. Have you reached the interview phase ? and have you asked them whether they will still deduct certain amount/percentage out of your income ? I am from Laguna yet, so any information from you will be very much appreciated.
  2. burbeestar, have you considered ONP ?

  4. Suzanne, lets not get personal here. You said "Just because your mother has an agency or consultancy as you call it, she is not the one that issues the visas either." I never claim that my mother has a say in issuing a visa. It is a previlege to be issued a visa and NO ONE ABSOLUTELY NO OINE has a claim to that. Only God and the issuing offier knows what the result will be. Our thread here, as I see it, is putting in writing what each one of us beleives in and in other cases what they actually know and experienced in order to be of help to the readers. I am here for instance to write what little I KNOW as it happens. About the visa, NOT everyone is lucky enough to be granted a student visa. When I worked in an airline and was in charge of international packages ( USA, EUROPE, ASIA, AUSTRALIA) I learned that even those who are financially well off got rejected. There is no clear cut of getting your visa approved. Those who have tried applying from a third world country knows this. But I am already digressing from the topic. Sorry. Let's go back . Tier 2 - general website : http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier2/general/ This section explains how you can come or stay in the skilled worker category (Tier 2 General) under our points-based system to work in the United Kingdom. What is the skilled worker category? Who can apply as a skilled worker? How long can you stay for? It will be too long if I paste everything in this thread. I suggest to those interested to just visit this website http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier2/general/ You will find all the answers such as how much point per qualification, how many years experienced required, funds, processing time, etc. It will even lead you to a link of how and where you can have your qualifications evaluated (NARIC). You will get the COMPLETE INFORMATION IN THIS WEBSITE. And to you guys , I wish you good luck and success this 2009 and I pray that God will quide your way. When you gain success, I ask that you just pay forward..... DO NOT THINK OF ANY MONETARY REWARDS. BELEIVE IN KARMA !
  5. Who can apply as a skilled worker? Before you apply under the skilled worker category (Tier 2 General), you must have: a sponsor; and a valid certificate of sponsorship. When you apply you are awarded points based on your: qualifications; future expected earnings; sponsorship; English language skills; and available maintenance (funds). To get full details please visit http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk
  6. Sharrie said " I seem to remember that your Mom has something to do with one of these agencies so I wonder if there's a little personal interest in your active encouragment of these schemes.". Fortunately yes, my mom has a consultancy firm and has assisted a loooot of newly gaaduate nurses and caregivers go to the UK under the NVQ in Health & Social Care program. And that is why I can speak with authority. We are all here not for personal interest but to give light to what is the truth, as one sees it. That is why the pros and cons are so encouraging for this will help those undecided to weigh their options. NOW TO NURSES OUT THERE :Tier 2 Point based sytem, skilled workers-general, includes in their Government - approved UK shortage occupation list for tier 2 , as of Nov. 2008, among others, NURSES - JOB TITLES: I quote " ONLY the following job titles within this occupation : registered nurse employed or engaged at band 7 or 8 of the Agenda for Change scale or their independent sector equivalents ; registered nurse at band 5 or above employed or engaged in the following specialties- operating theatre nurse, anaesthetic nurse, operating department practitioner, scrub nurse, theatre nurse, critical nurse (nurses working in critical units with level 2 or 3 classification)." MAC to review evidence by March 2009. This will give Filipino nurses an opportunity to work as a NURSE in the UK. And mind you, everyone interested can just go to the Point based sytem website for guidance. YOU DON'T NEED ANY CONSULTANT OR REPRESENTATIVE to do this. I wish all of you a HAPPY HAPPY, PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR !
  7. I like what 5 Cats say " So if you look to become a carer in UK of course go for it if you want. But if you look to enhance your nursing career don't.". Yes readers, beleive it or not many nursing graduates from the 3rd world country will grab anything that will give them opportunity to have a brighter future. To those who are from the 1st world country can never imagine the economy of these 3rd worl countries. Take for insatnce Philippines. This country has an oversupply of nurses... just this last board exam, about 90,000 took the board. ( Honestly, I am very puzzled why so many are still enrolling in nursing courses. But to the credit of the government, it has already craked down on nursing school with very low board passers). As to why people go to the UK and take advantage of this Study and Earn Program, the answer is .... they look for a better life. Though it entails working below the level of a nurse, the salary compensates for it. Plese don't say that the salary is not sufficient for their living costs. I know of about 20 students who are in Birmingham right now who can attest that they even have spare to send back to their parents back home. It all boils down to one's lifestyle. Yes, there are agents who are getting advantage of this situation. And again and again, concern parties are warning applicants to beware of these "scammers". The Tier 2, work permit for skilled workers now open doors to non EU nationals. This took effect Sept. 27, 2008 will open doors to these "students" to qualify for care assistants and home carers. I hear protests ..."but that's not what they studied for""they are downgrading themselves", "disgusting", "outrageous", etc. BUT remember, qualifications of nursing graduates from the 3rd world countries is not equivalent to those of the 1st world countries. To prove this point, may I request gradutes of the 3rd world countriesto have their qualifications evaluated by UK NARIC website http://www.naric.org.uk Chances are your evaluation will be on level 3 or level 4 of the National Qualifications Framewrok. It is heartwarming to read the pros and cons in this thread. It gives individual a tool to think, evaluate, consider, before acting on his/her plan. Readers, may you be guided accordingly.
  8. Reading how difficult it is to secure a CRNE copy, I wonder why those who contacted me finds the 2nd hand at PHP1,000 still expensive.
  9. This may not concern nurses per se but I decided to share this article to warn everyone to be careful in choosing agents with whom you deal with. http://www.pr-inside-com PHILIPPINES LATEST NEWS AFFINITY TRAINING TO WAVE TRAINING Print article Refer to a friend 2008-08-14 11:03:50 - Hundreds of Filipinos lose money as training firm closes and transfers assets Birmingham, UK Defunct Affinity Training's strange relationship with Wave Training revealed. Affinity's staff suddenly left Copthall House and turned up at Brindley Place (pictured), a prestige development in the center of Birmingham, and became employed by Wave Training on the same day Affinity went into liquidation Information for former students of Affinity Training Ltd, the college which recently went bust leaving hundreds of Filipino students stranded in the UK and Philippines with no chance of getting their money back. It has emerged that a number of Filipino students (who have asked not to be named) were originally told by Kirsten (website - http://www.kirstenrecruit.com/ ), Affinity's agency in the Philippines, that their tuition fees would be payable monthly by instalments, later received an invoice to pay the full balance after they arrived in the UK. 10. 15 Sept. 2008 I was curious about this BSc(Hons) Health & Social Care myself and wrote Edge Hill University about it. Please find their reply, below. I sincerely hope that this will serve as guide to foreign student about this program. Many thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately International Students are not eligible to study the BSc (hons) Health and Social Care Practice course due to the way it is funded. Before making any application to a health programme you should check your entitlement to NHS bursary funding. The residency clauses relating to overseas student means that Edge Hill University is unable to offer any places on Dip HE education programmes to any students who are not supported by a NHS Bursary, nor do we offer places to self financing students. 11. Sorry, I maybe violating some rules here if I do so.
  12. It's CRNE REP GUIDE -Canadian Nurses Association 4TH Edition You may YM me for a copy
  13. My cousin brought in a CRNE Prep Guide. Please get in touch with me . I am in Manila.
  14. "well i heard also that some hospital are taking advantage of the new graduate that if they want to get an experience they have to pay the hospital just to be able to work as volunteer nurse, this is suck" Yes redlabel, "it sucks".... but that's the reality here in the Philippines. So many things "sucks" but being a resident of this country we just have to bear with it until things changes.
  15. The facts that I presented are base on the expenses of my mom's students whom she have sent to the UK. The nurses are very happy there; no complaints as of this writing. Students are exempt from the council tax BUT they pay 18% income tax. I am NOT claiming that this certificate will qualify one to be a nurse. Definitely NOT. BUT, while waiting for opportunites to work as a NURSE in the future, why not take this NVQ, the work of which is still related to healthcare; earn a certificate, PLUS a bonus of a salary that only TOP EXECUTIVES earn here in the Philippines. (not even middle level executives earn that much here in the Philippines). Believe me, the living cost that I presented more than cover one's expenses- more than enough spare to send to their families back home. A 3 bedroom flat in Worcestershire cost UKP613 inclusive of water, electric bills. There are 3 students who share the flat. That is the truth because my 1st cousin is one of those who stays in that flat. They receive a Gross salary of GBP11,500 a year or a net of GBP9,430 (18% tax) annual. With the enterprising nature of Filipinos, they can earn more (offering massage service after work, perhaps???or haircut?)? I know that it is very hard and un-acceptable for many who does not know life in the Philippines to understand why Filipino nurses accepts jobs "below" what nurses are trained for. Many parents of these nursing graduates had to mortgage their properties just to send their children to nursing schools hoping that once their children graduates, they will have a better life. I don't want to argue here why Philippines continue to produce many nurses; blaming the government for such; etc. The reason of my writing in this thread is to let FILIPINO NURSES know that there is a better opportunity out there for you as compared to seating in front of the computer from 8pm till the wee hour of the morning earning PHP25,000 (USD556) a month,in a call center. Hope somehow, I'm able to give light to dilemma of FILIPINO nurses reading this thread.
