Working out/exercising while in nursing school

Nursing Students General Students

Hey everyone,

I hope there are plenty of nursing students/current nurses out there that are just as enthusiastic about fitness as I am. I live in Brooklyn, nyc, and this year I am planning to apply to accelerated programs. I was wondering if doing this is feasible? Perhaps cutting down workout volume would be necessary in order to get optimal rest and study times..especially for clinical days. Time manage is essential in healthcare..

Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

there is nothing wrong with working out. Just one hour is good enough, you need excerise in order to keep your mind clear and stress free

I exercise about 1 hour per day. It really helps keep my stress down. If I do not have time to exercise, I will go on a one mile run and that will have to work for that day. On clinical days, I do not exercise. I probably should, but I just need that extra hour of sleep so bad.

With my hectic schedule with work and school, I show up to classes at the gym whenever I have free time. I'm too lazy to try to work out my own routine.

I work out every day. On clinical days, I get up at 4 am to go running. On non-clinical days, I make sure to walk/run/lift/take a class/something every single day. It keeps me energized, centered, focused and able to get through the stress of school.

I spend atleast an hour at the gym about 6 days a week. I need the break from the craziness of school and I do a lot of strength training which allows me to really work out the stress. Clinical days are harder for me, because Im exhausted by the time I get home and I don't want to get up any earlier than 0445, haha. I use a preworkout powder, C4, to get me going on days that Im dragging.

I applaud all of you! Wow it is so hard for me to find time to work out even an hr a day.

I do, however, workout during school breaks and such. Maybe ill find the time next term. :)

P.s would taking the stairs at school rather than an elevator count as a workout? Hehehe

I own my own Crossfit gym so working out during ALL OF THIS is a must;) you just need to be sure and manage your time so you have enough to study and keep your body in check. Food plays an important roll in it all tho! Never forget that! Can't eat crap and expect to have a good long and healthy career. Think of working out as health promotion ;) set the example! That's how I see it:)

If you WANT to do it, you'll make the time :)

Oh and also, my clinical day is my "off day" is pretty terrible on your body to workout when you're dead tired. So maybe write out a schedule? That should help:)

You own your own crossfit? That's so awesome! I recently started crossfitting (about 4 mons ago) and I love it! I don't start clinicals till the fall & But im hoping I can still find time to get a wod in a few times a week with clinicals.

When school is hectic, I switch my program to a 3x per week full body lifting routine. When it calms down, I switch back to a 4 day split, 1 day off, repeat. All about the desire.

I find that once I am doing more web surfing than studying, it is time to exercise.
