Is there a medical word that you absolutely hate? Or one that you can never seem to pronounce correctly?
Hate:
Mispronounce:
Prophylaxis. I ALWAYS say prophylaxicks.
I have a co-worker that says Cefazolin wrong and is convinced she is right. Drives me nuts.
Our charting system has "juicy cough" as a descriptor. I gagged just typing that...eeewww!
No! I love that! I've been describing coughs that way for nearly 20 years - love that it's now acceptable documentation language, lol.
Also, 'pulmonary toilet' is alive and well in my neck of the woods.
"Something".
"Something for ma' pain". "Something for something".
Just tell me you're wanting your next fix, at least it will be honest. Or tell me precisely what is troubling you, and what you usually do for that.
"Prophylactively" ("Prophylactively intubated for airway protection")
Not a single word, but...
"We need to talk as a family".
Great, you guys have 15 min to discuss what had to be discussed some 10 years ago. Till I get my next vitals and ABGs. Then it will be code.
We are all about the pulmonary toilet where I work.
Makes me think of hocking mucous in the toilet. And while we're on the subject, I don't like mucous. I pick secretion over mucous every single time.
I'm a fan of meatus, not a fan of anything flaccid, and love love love trabeculae. I also enjoy Purkinje fibers.

Just saw "prophylactively" used in the title of a thread. I don't think that's a real word, lol.
