My first IV in the clinical setting was a prior nurse educator who also worked on one state's NCLEX boards. Oh and she had also travelled to various parts of the world for nursing conventions and to listen to theorists. I will never, ever forget that moment in my life...talk about nerves shaking YOUR whole body. I got it on the first stick-thank God (really did thank him when I get the flash of blood) and everything went rather well but it had to have been the most nerve racking thing EVER! But congrats-isn't it great what can excite you?

Horrors!!!
Congrats! I start nursing school in August and one of the things I am freaked out by the most is IV insertion. During CNA clinicals, I went with a nurse to watch her put one in to be sure I wasn't going to faint or anything crazy. The nurse was an LPN and was only just learning how to do IV's and she had trouble hitting the vein. She ended up sticking the entire needle into the woman's vein and still didn't hit it. I felt a tad queasy then but the idea of working a needle around inside someone's arm sort of freaks me out.
I have been very apprehensive about the whole needle thing but from reading other posts on this website, I have discovered that I am not alone in this!
