Hi fellow nurses,
I fell while working an EMS shift landing square on my mandible and of course breaking it.... Anyway I am wired shut for the next few weeks and will be limited to liquidish food...
I am looking for amy food ideas, has to be smoothie like texture as i have to squeeze it through my teeth... Thanks! I am getting bored with mashed potatoes, spagettios, and ensure!
Happy
When I was wired shut ( on purpose)
I ate a lot of oodles of noodles ( i could suck the noodles and swallow whole)
I also took Pizza and spaghetti sauce and pureed it down
Spaghetti noodles with sweet sausage purred in sauce ( again noodles swallowed whole)
Sea food bisque ( purred down)
lots of cream based soups
Milk shakes
I would make really stiff mashed taters and put the oodles of noodles over them. Yummy. still make these today.
Butternut squash soup is really tasty, should be next to the Campbell's in the soup aisle. Also, you could add some cream cheese to soups to give a different flavor and some extra calories. ( I add cream cheese to chicken and rice all the time)
Smoothies made with low fat cottage cheese and fruit, and when pureed really well it doesn't taste like cottage cheese.
Your choose of instant breakfast/ensure/slimfast chocolate with a banana and some peanut butter makes a good smoothie also, DH's favorite.
Random question, but what happens if you have emisis with a jaw wired shut? wire cutters? Sorry to hear about your jaw OP. I would go with the fruit smoothies and some milk shakes (hey guilt free right. Hope you get better soon!
We taught our Pts to lean all the way forward and cut open the wires.
ooh, that sucks!
the good news is you can still eat pretty much anything.. the bad news is the presentation's not great.
for iron, protien and popeye's forearms, try cooking some broccoli, spinach, peas, and zucchini in about a cup of water, blending it (with the liquid - add some or remove some to get a thick-ish soup) then blend in an egg and some tasty or parmesan cheese.
try purreed pumpkin in with your potato, carrots with parsnips (with plenty of butter), banana smoothies with honey and malt, and make sure you season things - it'll make them a lot more interesting!
oh, and gravy is useful too

Whatever you eat/drink/slurp, keep the wire cutters nearby :)
I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this
