Competiton is too much. It's the same at every school. When will this go away? I'm so frustrated!

nursing school or the field is not easy. if you aren't ready for the competition maybe you should consider another field...

Life in general is a competition. It's about time you got use to it. Yeah certain aspects and areas of life are less competetive than others but still . . .

Life is a battlefield. It is not TV. Competition is the name of the game. We are in a Depression. Nothing is going to turn around.
It gets tougher everyday. You have to kick and fight your way. If you want to be a nurse then go for it. Don't wait for the Good Faerie to come. FIGHT or Die.

Hey, Addison. I remember your posts about the TEAS. I don't think this whole rush into nursing will get better any time soon. I'm so used to seeing every girl want to be a nurse, that's it's so hard to imagine otherwise! Like the other post said, fight or die. If you know nursing is for you, then it is for you. Don't give up. Examine where you need to improve if need be and focus on that so you will be a knockout everytime.

Competition to get into nursing school can be a good thing. Not everyone is cut out to be a nurse, and the wait list and stringent requirements to be accepted can cut out those who may not be able to safely handle the job or maybe aren't all that crazy about becoming a nurse and may just be looking for job security (which is much less now with all the new grads unable to find jobs, along with all the unemployed experienced nurses) or money. Yes, there are those who are excellent nurses who maybe aren't incredibly book-smart, but the best nurses have a combination of book-smarts and life-smarts.

I must protest re this the way this thread is worded.
1) IT IS USING TEXT SPEAK which is against TOS, or so I was told in a recent message. Seems like there's different rules for different people on AN.
2) IT IS NOT EVEN WRITTEN CORRECTLY! 'Will the ever economy....??'
Can the moderators please amend these sentences so they appear to be AT LEAST legible English.

Nursing schools are competitive by nature. It's not going to go away.
I am going broke trying to be a nurse though. How long do I have to suffer financially until I get accepted? every other field THEERE IS NO DEMAND.
i applied for radiology and that is my only hope but there is no demand for it but i have no choice right now.
i barely can pass the TEAS. other schools want a higher reading score and i keep getting the same score each time. unless someone tells me what the answers are i dont know how I am going to ever be competitive enough to get in

Yeah, I'm grateful RN schools are competitive. I can appreciate your difficulty but I'm happy for the patients. If reading is your problem, then you will struggle to comprehend the loads of textbooks nursing school requires you to read. You're not supposed to be able to "buy" a degree. In many cases, students get financial aid anyway.
If you're interested in something health-related there are still other fields you could pursue:
Public Health
Optometry
Healthcare Management
Dietitian
Nutritionist
Dental Hygenist
Physical Therapist
Occupational Therapist
Massage Therapist

Interestingly enough, we don't want people to stop pursuing nursing. We are facing an impending nursing shortage, what with the large number of nurses soon to be retiring. In fact, studies are suggesting the demand for nurses will exceed supply by 20% in the year 2020. That is HUGE! The problem you are facing is related to the lack of nursing professors and/or the lack of space in hospitals, which limits the number of students they can take. All of this adds up to nursing schools being exceptionally competitive!
Don't lose hope, though. I applied to and was turned down from one nursing program twice. Then I tried another program, and was turned down. But, by that point, I had enough college credits to pick a non-nursing major, complete a degree, and have a bachelor's degree. This made me eligible for the accelerated BSN programs out there. I applied to one, was put on the waiting list, and then found out I had a position two weeks before classes started! Talk about cutting it close!!
I consider myself a fairly competitive applicant--and look at what I had to go through to get into nursing school! Basically my point is don't give up if you really feel nursing is for you! Do what you have to do to get into school--if that means taking some English classes or getting a tutor or buying one of those study books to better your reading score on the TEAS test, then do it.
Best of luck to you!
