Why try the PVT?

Nursing Students NCLEX

I took my Nclex on 16th. It shut off in 75 questions. I felt like the exam was hard and it made me feeling unsure of my performance. It has been 24 hours now. I don't know whether or not to try PVT.

If you fail, it will take your money right? Why take a gamble with the money being accepted unexpectedly and finding out you fail at the same time? Do some people not care about losing $200 to find out?

I hear people saying "risk $200" unfortunately, if you do not pass, you regardless are going to have to pay this 200 again so that you may retest. I guess it's just a choice of paying $200 now or in a few weeks?

Not exactly. The risk is that people frequently ignore the advice in this forum, and start punching numbers on their phone the moment they walk out of the testing center. Or an hour later. Or two. The point is, since your exam is scored TWICE, you need to wait the full 24 hours to be sure you were done with the scoring. If you were someone on the fence and the computer's FIRST score had you at 'fail', you come along and do PVT and pay $200 for that failure (to schedule another test). But if your second score is a 'pass' (and believe me, it DOES HAPPEN!!!) you will be out $200, it's non-refundable.

There's the risk. I see it time and time and time again, people posting how they did the PVT right after they finished the test....and if it's a 'pass', and they actually DO pass.....they aren't any wiser about how it works, they think it "worked" immediately. And....that's how people have lost money--by listening to those people instead of some of us who understand it better. :(

PS, Elizabeth: I expect you'll be testing soon, so not a big deal at the moment, but you are going against the Terms of Service for this website by indicating in your userID that you are already an RN. If you pass (and I sure hope you do!!) it'll be fine; if you don't, you will need to change that ID.

Good luck!!

I worked VERY HARD for those two letters behind my name, along with my BSN as well. For anyone to question that is not only hurtful, but also insulting

Hey, chill! All I saw was that you were preparing to test, NOT that you had PASSED the test. Simple mistake, and I was being polite, I had no intention of insulting you. People do this ALL the time here; they join up as students or new grads and stick designations into their usernames without having actually earned them. That's all. No need to freak!

Believe me, if you get this worked up over that post, you're going to find yourself insulted a lot more on these boards, and over a lot less...give it time ;)

No big deal! Just read more carefully next time please! I am not the original poster- just responded to the original poster first. I can see now how you made that mistake. As a fellow nurse I hope that you can understand being questioned on something like that, though.

As a fellow nurse, I wouldn't have jumped off the edge like that, personally. I realize you're new here, only a few posts, so maybe you don't know the climate or culture of AN as yet....and while I am happy to welcome you....well, a little slack before shouting (which is what ALL CAPS is considered) would do everyone some good :)

I know you weren't the OP, but you did ask a question, which is why I offered an answer to help you.

Yes, I would like that information. Also your birth date, home address, and social security number. A personal phone number would also be nice in case any of us get lonely and need someone to talk to.

Obviously lost my cool. Felt like I was being talked down to. Apologies to all. No more caps.
