Why SHOULDN'T one smoke in Amsterdam?

OK.. I know this is a wierd thread, but I'm just curious if anyone can come up with a reason NOT to.

I DONT smoke. Its not really for me, i keep a busy life working full time as a supervisor, and i go to school full time at night.... I believe in keeping my options open for the future....

With that being said....is there ANY reason why one SHOULDN'T smoke in amsterdam? I figure its a once in a lifetime thing, and i guess thats the place to do it...lol... I'm traveling all over europe and will be there for a day or so.

I know i've heard that you can not have smoked for 4 years before becoming a police officer.... I dont plan on becoming a police officer, so THAT doesn't really worry me. Are there any other jobs that you guys can think of that are like that? Right now i'm going into the Registered Nursing (R.N.) program(just got my A.S. degree and completed all the pre-reqs for the program), and eventually would like to become a Nurse Anesthetist...

SO, are there any other reasons(as far as future jobs go) why NOT to? Please dont start with the whole "gateway drug", or any health reasons...

Thank you for your time/opinions.....

Tobacco shows up on a drug test?

Oh, OK, now I get it - you were talking about pot, not cigarettes!

LOL! If that were the case 75% of my class would not have been accepted.

Um... I don't know of anyone who's in legal trouble for smoking pot in the US. Just walk down the East Village in New York and you'll whiff it in the air. You don't have to all the way to Amsterdam. And it's going to be in your system no matter where you smoke it. I don't see the big deal.

i think it is funny that the question/title of the thread is "why SHOULDN'T one smoke in Amsterdam?", but you add "please dont start with the whole "gateway drug", or any health reasons...". it's kinda like saying "how do you start a car, but don't tell me about "keys" or "the ignition." :lol2:

anyway, i say if you WANT to then go ahead....but to me, first, i do not leave my morals in the U.S. when i travel, second, (it may not be the gateway to worry about) have you ever thought that maybe you would LOVE it so much that you would WANT to continue when you got back to the US (it could happen). i guess the question is why do you not smoke it here...is it because it is illegal or is it because you think drugs are wrong. i, personally, have seen the effects of this "harmless" drug, so i don't want any part of it. and yes, i know users that function normally, but it is not a chance that i am willing to take. i am not here to judge, but this is a judgement that YOU will have to not only make, but also will have to live with IF there are any consequences.

have fun (with or without smoking) and i wish you a safe return.

sincerely,

jay

The last thing you should do is call the school and start asking questions about what kind of drug screening they do. Hellllloooo? Talk about a huge red flag!

"Wow" do I feel very niave right now:lol2: and believe me I did not lead a sheltered life. I also thought this thread was talking about tobacco :smokin: untill I got to the second page. I guess if my career hinged on the fact that if I failed a drug test I would not have a career, then I would not do it, but of course that is my personal opinion.

I don't need to smoke the stuff to experience the weirdness, as a nurse today I witnessed one patient sitting on the trash can next to her bed, talking to her IV pole and having a BM. When I addressed her she asked me to get her friend a drink. I assisted her back to bed and walked down the hall running her not quite complete thoughts through my mind and being really glad I was not where she is.

you shouldn't smoke there if you are not a regular smoker, it's too strong. BTW, psychedelic mushrooms are legal there also, they won't show on a drug test, but i would strongly discourage you from partaking of this also.

haha... Ok, well i'm getting mixed opinions here.... ALL are appriciated...

you only live once... have fun while you can!

I would advise against it - why give anyone any excuse to build/maintain a file on you?

Even if you don't get fired for it - at some future point, if you do end up at logger heads with management, incidents like this might serve as "proof" of your "unreliability".

In anycase, somepeople maynot be 'up to speed' that some drugs are legal in Europe. And even if it were, it would be filed down under the section "tends to use recreational drugs if offorded the opportunity."

This bit of advice I gave goes contrary to my political and personal beliefs on the so called 'War on Drugs' - but this isn't the time, place or thread for it!

cheers,

Roy Fokker- Thank you very much for your time/ideas... But my question for you is, how would they EVER know? How could they use it against someone if they never find out? I wouldn't even be in the program for one year, and wont be an RN till 3 years...

thanks!
