Why SHOULDN'T one smoke in Amsterdam?

OK.. I know this is a wierd thread, but I'm just curious if anyone can come up with a reason NOT to.

I DONT smoke. Its not really for me, i keep a busy life working full time as a supervisor, and i go to school full time at night.... I believe in keeping my options open for the future....

With that being said....is there ANY reason why one SHOULDN'T smoke in amsterdam? I figure its a once in a lifetime thing, and i guess thats the place to do it...lol... I'm traveling all over europe and will be there for a day or so.

I know i've heard that you can not have smoked for 4 years before becoming a police officer.... I dont plan on becoming a police officer, so THAT doesn't really worry me. Are there any other jobs that you guys can think of that are like that? Right now i'm going into the Registered Nursing (R.N.) program(just got my A.S. degree and completed all the pre-reqs for the program), and eventually would like to become a Nurse Anesthetist...

SO, are there any other reasons(as far as future jobs go) why NOT to? Please dont start with the whole "gateway drug", or any health reasons...

Thank you for your time/opinions.....

From DutchgirlRN and knowing how many Dutch smoke and many smoke non-filtered cigarettes....my answers are simple!

Bad Breath, Stinky hair, Stinky clothes, less money in bank account, Shortness of Breath, Hacking cough in morning, Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, COPD, Cancer, Death.....

That pretty much covers it. Don't start...you won't have to worry about quitting.

My answer somehow posted twice so I am editing this reply to only say DON'T START SMOKING no matter where you live.

I guess I'm gathering these aren't plain old cigarettes...................

no, I wouldn't-random drug testing,etc,etc....

It seems like the three reasons people would not smoke are:

1) random drug testing ruining their career

2) reputation being tarnished if the wrong people find out in the U.S.

3) personal preference not to

It sounds like you have a safe time gap so that #1 isn't a problem. #2 can be fixed by NOT TELLING ANYONE other than oh, maybe, your cat. So it comes down to #3 in my opinion. Enjoy your trip!

After re-reading the OP, you are correct, these ain't plain old cigarettes......I personally wouldn't do it. I've been offered pot in Holland many times. But if you decide to I highly doubt you would get caught from that one experience. You can always shave your head if they decide to test!

If you are in no danger of taking a drug test in the near future, go and have fun. Make sure you have someone with you that can "babysit" you just in case the high is intense. Enjoy it while you can, once you get out of school, you never know when you will have a random drug test. All it takes is one day of a missing narc. Smoking a joint will not make you a bad person. You will probably have a blast.

i am not pot smart but a nurse i worked with was talking about a urine test [i think] she had to take that had some marijuana reaction

she said that the amount in the test was not enough for being reported to state because it is graded in different catagories...like a] yu have been smoking pot b]you have been in a close proximity to someonne who smoked pot please don't anybody go out and try and use this as a legal defense because i am not sure of the facts

however, i know of companies that refuse to hire smokers as in camels and marlboro because fo the increased time off with health problems plus the cost of insurance etc if an employee tests positive for cigarette smoking that is grounds for termination i guess if they know that when they are applying for a job then it is acceptable even if the cigarettes/chewing tobacco are legal

can you chew pot?????

A question about the hair testing - does anyone know if using chemicals such as bleach or dye on your hair can 'erase' the evidence? Not that I am planning to do anything that would require it, but I'm curious. I know it's a little OT.

No, but shaving your hair bald could erase all trace....;)
