Why do nurses feel the need to "tattle" on colleagues to the boss for petty things? Behavior like this does nothing to elevate our profession and everything to keep us down. Why are there some nurses who feel superior when they tell on someone to the manager? This recently happened to me and I thought I had a good rapport with my co-workers yet one of them ratted me out to the boss on an off-the-cuff remark that I made. Why does this happen? Is it because the majority of nurses are women and women are catty individuals. I'm a woman btw. From now on though, I am just going to do my work, and only talk to the other nurses/aides about clinically relevant stuff only. Other than that, I'll keep my nose in a book. Actually, I won't be working at this current place much longer. There are staffing issues that put my license in jeoprady so I am starting a job hunt after the holidays.
So, why do we do this to eachother?
i can proudly say i don't have this problem mainly because i mind my own business and i pick and choose who to talk to at work. i am well liked at my job and most of my coworkers consider me "quiet and sweet" because i don't come to work telling all of my personal business. this method of dealing with work place madness works for me.

Ahhhh the age old dilemma regarding ALL of the human race.
Don't let one bad experience spoil the job....always going to be that "kind" of person in EVERY job. Sometimes it does help to try and think maybe they have serious issues in their life.I had a House Coordinator threaten to write me up the other day for not moving a patient room to room...fast enough. Come to find out her Dad has CA,is dying and her mother has STM issues and is living with her. Doesn't excuse it but sure helped me to feel empathy, instead of the other not so nice things I felt.
I try to avoid the back stabbing.I hope I am successful.
Grandma used to say," If you can't say something nice....don't say anything at all." Pretty good advice,I think.
Life is short, play hard, eat dessert FIRST and live like you were dyin!
