Why I hate DC

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

Because my car got broken into in broad daylight! I hear my alarm going off and I walk outside and the suspect just casually jogs away like nothing even happened. No point in filing a police report. I'm a student, times are hard, and I really don't need to be worrying about my safty outside of my house. Will be graduating in may and I have a choice to either stay out here and work at Childrens or go home to Beautiful Los Angeles. And to think, I was actually considering staying!

Why deal with the potholes, crackheads, unpredictable weather, horrible traffic and narrow roads when I could be at home relaxing in the sun on the beach. DOES ANYONE ELSE HATE DC AS MUCH AS I DO?!?!

SORRY IF I OFFEND ANYONE. BEEN HERE FIVE YEARS: FIRST COUPLE OF YEARS I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IT WOULD GROW ON ME...UM...NOT!:angryfire

:o

There are worse places than DC.

Well, maybe I'm tempting fate here by posting this, but I've lived in DC for an aggregate of 8 years, and my car has NEVER been broken into (knocking very hard on wood). And I went to Howard...no problems. DC isn't that bad...if you're feeling bad about being there, go to the Tidal Basin and check out the Cherry Blossoms.

Yeah, like Philadelphia. When I lived there, I could only dream of living in DC or NY.

oh yea...went to Philly last weekend... Never been so happy yo get back to DC IN MY LIFE!!!

Well, I have visited DC. Im from Canada and its different for sure. I enjoy the Smithsonian. Its amazing but if you have no car, and if you want to see mountains, grass or trees and no cars, well good luck unless you rent a car and go to Virgina. I see cars all day and restaurants outings are big here, and people take taxi's which is so foriegn to me. But the most beautiful thing is the Church of St. Matthews, clergy and its Choir. The Basilica too is so grand , a must see. If your spiritual life is strong, you can get through any town.

I was in DC for one whole day and didn't get mugged!!! :) I was on a tour bus. However, when I lived and worked near Los Angeles, CA I was almost attacked during broad day light at my local supermarket. Thank God, I heard his footsteps behind me. He had a huge rock in his hands and he was getting ready to knock me in the head with it!!! I turned to face him and showed him my weapon. He turned away at the last minute and walked quickly away. The police came but he was long gone. I hate all big cities. I love living in nice small towns. :)

I'm probably tempting fate as well, but I've never had my car broken into here either. I grew up in DC; now work in DC and live just outside in MD. A travel nurse I knew did have her car broken into in my hospital's satellite lot, and they stole something like $900 worth of CDs :( Guess I've been lucky so far.

But -- I'll agree that those red-light and speeding cameras suck! The 25 MPH speed limit is also very unrealistic in many areas of the city.

Whoa! Was that at Hospital Center? What lot? That's scary cuz I always leave my $2000 Loro Piana handbag (albeit hidden) in the back of my car. The security guy at the Critical care update always makes the lots sound so safe... the scoundrel!

I'm not extremely thrilled with D.C. but you do have to remember re: cops that we live in the #1 target for terrorism right now so that's part of why the police presence is so obvious. You also can't beat all the museums and political activities available here.

Yeah, it was in lot 9, around 6 months ago. I felt so bad for her; she had no recourse.

I guess when they tell us we're 'safe', they're referring to muggings/assaults?

Her care insurance didn't cover her loss? Poor thing. Don't you love how they're sitting on the ICU tower renovations... I bet come 5 yrs they'll be no new tower AND no renovations. Now that everyone's defecting to ER1, if that money doesn't actually show, we'll be in a heck of a bind.

I'm not sure if her car insurance covered the loss. I'll have to ask her.

Regarding the ICU tower renovations -- I guess a part of me is still naively thinking that it might actually happen in five years. I'm sure they're just telling us that so we'll hang in there. Which unit do you work on? I'm on 3G. I've been trying to guess who you are :) Did you go through the July fellowship last year?

Talk to you later,

Hillary

I was born and raised here and as soon as I can get away from here I will be on the first thing smokin. I can go on & on & on about DC but I won't, I would actually like to try LA. I've never been, scared of earthquakes but would love to try it. Aside from being a little lonely I'm sure i would love it.

So how is it?
