  1. *you can do a full set of vitals on a sleeping one years old with just the light shinning from the bathroom without waking them.. *you have at least 3 different techniques for cutting the taste of liquid PO prednisone... *you realize how vital it is to have all of your tape/flush/tagaderm (etc) prepared BEFORE you start the IV... *you have ever rolled used the "burrito roll" technique when starting an IV (rolled the kid up in a blanket with only the extremity that you plan to poke exposed...) *armboards are you best friends... *while babystitting a friends 4 month old you are reluctant to throw the diaper away and you get the sudden urge to put it on the scale to you can see how much it weighs... *you have ever had your stethascope slobbered on by a curious 1 year old... *your conversations with your coworkers begin with: "the parent in room XXX is crazy!" *you are no longer phased by the sight of xrays with broken tib fibs, and foreign objects in the throat... KEEP EM GOING!
  2. Sqeezed the Buretrol so hard that it busted wide open and sprayed all over my patient (who just happened to be a little 4 year old girl and was soundly sleeping)... Try explaining to a sleeping parent why her child is suddenly screaming at the top of her lungs and soaked in Normal Saline!!!!!
  3. There have been several multi-disciplinary meetings with parents, patient, psychs, etc regarding this issue as this is her 46th admit. She was even once on hospital hold and the parents were not allowed to take her home pending a thorough psych eval (at the time she was only 9). Nothing has seemed to work with her. We are at our wits end! I am a VERY FIRM BELIEVER in the notion that "pain is subjective," however I care very deeply about this troubled young lady and do not wish to contribute to what MAY be a possible drug addiction problem.... its a catch 20 either way
  4. No Sickle Cell Crisis. Has never had a diagnosis other than Mild Reflux...
  5. At my facility we have a pt who has been deemed a "frequent flyer drug seeker." She comes in like every 3 weeks c/o SEVERE abdominal pain and that only Dilaudid will relieve it. So we give it to her around the clock, Labs are drawn, CT's, the whole nine. Everything comes back negative of course. She rates her pain as a 10/10 even though she shows no clinical signs of pain. Pain is subjective, however, I remind myself to not be judgemental and to just medicate her according to protocol. Sounds familiar to you? hmmm I work in a Peds unit... And this patient is 12...
  6. The administration there is HORRIBLE as seems to be the case at most Black Institutions. And honestly, it does not get better once you are a student there. However, I personally LOVED my experience there and the administration problems were generally only a major issue during registration time. Even still, the problems were not so great as to take away from the overall experience. PM me for more information....
  7. Sounds like Intussusception... He will more than likely have a barium enema and the problem should then resolve. Its fairly common in that age range so rest assure...
  8. wow...just an update for you guys since I was the original one who posted the thread. I ended up moving back home to LA. I have no regrets about my decision, although I am sure I will be back often to visit...
  9. Ok thanks a bunch...I will definetely try in the morning and keep everyone posted!
  10. Good idea...I will try first thing in the morning. I did not get my ap from the CABON, I just printed it online and sent that one in. I then went to get the cards from the same place I got the prints done and sent those in. I hope that wont be a problem too...thanks for ur help tho...
  11. lol...oh brother....I was supposed to write something on the back of my photos? MANNNN I'm in a world of trouble. You see the problem is, that I went to school out of state so no out here can guide me on what to do for the CA boards, they dont even have to get fingerprints! The website is not really clear and no one answers the phone! I don't want to have to send in another whole AP b/c I think they will try to get me to pay again. I'm thinking about just sending in the other set and putting my info on it...
  12. So what should I do now? should I send in another card? Everytime I call I get a busy signal (of course). OH noooooooooo....
  13. Hi everyone, I am a new graduate and recently just applied for my IP and to take the boards. The problem is, I live in DC (I will be workin in Ca in sept tho...) so I wasnt sure how to do the fingerprinting process since they do it different here in DC. So I just went to the police station and had them do it and I sent it in. Was this wrong? B/c I read another thread that said you needed two. OH NOOOO! Please help me... PS: how long does the IP take (assuming that u have done everything right?) I've heard everything from 2 weeks to 4 months!!!!!
  14. I am also looking as well. Esp the PICU. So far I am looking at PICU...
  15. oh yea...went to Philly last weekend... Never been so happy yo get back to DC IN MY LIFE!!!
