  1. Thank you everyone sooo much! My nephew is now home and doing better!! I think you were right HU... that sounds like what my sister called it. He is still a little fussy, but I would be too if I had such a tough weekend! I appreciate all of your prayers, and so does my family! May God bless you all! Patience
  2. Thank you so much gooey! I just got off the phone with my sister and they have found out that his intestines are twisted or they are blocked. They are going to try some sort of air method (putting air up his butt kinda thing) and if that does work they will have to do surgery. My sister says its pretty big, because they need to act quickly. I appreciate your prayers!! God Bless, patience
  3. My nephew was just admitted into the Cleveland Clinic with intestinal problems. He hasnt been eating very well all week, and my sister and brother in law just assumed he was getting sick. This morning my sister woke him up and he had dried puke all over him... as my sister brought him downstairs to get him cleaned up he was very lathargic and while she was cleaning him off he puked all over her... he then puked in the sink as she was again trying to clean him up. His puke was green, which we all know is not good. So she took him to the doctors and the doctor had him admitted and they are running test and taking X-rays... they think something is wrong with this intestinal area (not sure of any medical terms this is what my brother in law told me) and may need surgery. The doctor did give my sister a name of what they think it could be...but she couldnt even pronounce it (she's an RN there). I'm not looking for anyone to diagnose my nephew but does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? I'm only looking to educate myself... I'm sitting at my sister's house watching my niece while they are at the hospital. So just kinda looking for some knowledge & some prayers if possible. Thanks all!! God Bless, Patience
  4. Hi everyone!! Thank you so much for reading (this is kinda lengthy)! I'm finishing up my pre-req's and will be taking the NET exam this summer. I would really like to get my foot in the door of the medical world. I have applied to become a NA at multiple hospitals a number of times and have been rejected everytime. I think this is because I have no prior medical backgroud (that I can understand). So I have been looking very hard at becoming an STNA and found a couple programs that seem great. I found a NH that offers a two week course and then a possible position afterwards... problem is I need to give my current job no less than two weeks notice, and the NH is only giving me a weeks notice as to when the next course is offered. I then found that Meridia (yay!) is offering a three week course to become an STNA. You fill out an application for an actual position and then they train you... problem with this one... they wont hire me! I understand that a hospital can not just hire anyone off the streets and give them a job taking care of people's lives. But I dont know how else to get involved! I will be on a waiting list for 2 years before I get into the Nursing program at school, and I'm afraid that when I get into the actual program I'm going to realize that I dont like nursing!! I could pay for classes to become a MA, but I'm on my own and am really trying to keep the cost down. I was hoping someone would be able to give me an better idea or maybe a dose of reality! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!!! God Bless, Patience
  5. Well it looks like the pay is around the same price range... Although it looks like where you live has something to do with it. I'm looking into a STNA program offered at the Cleveland Clinic, here in Cleveland. I havent asked yet what the pay rate is, I'm honestly not concerned about it anymore. I'm really looking to get out of my current job and start doing something in the medical field. This program doesnt start until June\July... but later better than never!
  6. Scorpi86 - Try Nursing Homes... I live in Streetsboro (a little south of Cleveland) and I've found a NH that will provide the classes and pay for the state test w\o having to sign a contract. The only catch to this is that its a two week program from 7a-4p. I dont know if you have flexible shifts or not? I don't, so when I enter the program I will have to quit my job and start working there. Do you got to Tri-C? That's where I'm going right now, taking pre-req's also. I also live on my own and have to worry about rent, so I can understand the type of situation your in.... Good luck!!! God Bless, Patience
  7. Wow $3.35/hr! How times have changed! Thank you for the best wishes Nurse Ratched!
  8. Wow only $7.50!? I will start counting my blessings! Thanks!
  9. Congrats & Good luck!!!!! Where is Cincy is the program being held?? I used to attend UC a couple years ago.
  10. I am looking to become an STNA. The program I'm looking to take is offered by and Nursing home. I could be (no contract being signed) hired on directly after I finish the two week course & then of course pass the state test. They are offereing $8.90\hour as a new employee, does this sound about right? I was thinking that being certified would give me at least $9.50. Does anyone know if that is a resonable starting price? Do hospitals pay more for their STNA's? Thank you for your help!! Patience
  11. I just wanted to quickly thank EVERYONE for all of the advise... I am still contemplating what my decision is going to be. I have a lot of questions that need to be answered before I know what my path really needs to be. I really do appreciate all of your advise and am taking it very close to heart to help me with my decision! Thank you again!!! God Bless, Patience
  12. :uhoh21: I'm new here so I apologize first for any obvious mistakes I'm making... Here is my dilema: I have finally decided (I'm 22) that I would like to go into Nursing. I am attending my community college and will be on the waiting list in a couple months. I called a Nursing home and they offer STNA classes w\o signing a contract and the classes are free. It sounds like a great opportunity for me to make myself more valuable and to find out if I want to go into Nursing. My fear is that I will quit my job (which pays very well but is very boring) and attend this two week course and find out that nursing is not for me, & then be out of a job and now back at square one not knowing what career I want to go into & jobless! I guess my question is, how did you know that you wanted to be a Nurse? Does this sound like an opportunity that you would go for? Is cleaning people's bum and carrying them to that bathroom & dealing with the stubborness of both them and the frustrations with the job worth it at the end of the day?? I believe my heart would be in Nursing, I'm just scared to lose my job and find that its not for me! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this & respond!!! I appreciate it more than words can say!! God Bless, Patience
