Why I hate DC

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

Because my car got broken into in broad daylight! I hear my alarm going off and I walk outside and the suspect just casually jogs away like nothing even happened. No point in filing a police report. I'm a student, times are hard, and I really don't need to be worrying about my safty outside of my house. Will be graduating in may and I have a choice to either stay out here and work at Childrens or go home to Beautiful Los Angeles. And to think, I was actually considering staying!

Why deal with the potholes, crackheads, unpredictable weather, horrible traffic and narrow roads when I could be at home relaxing in the sun on the beach. DOES ANYONE ELSE HATE DC AS MUCH AS I DO?!?!

SORRY IF I OFFEND ANYONE. BEEN HERE FIVE YEARS: FIRST COUPLE OF YEARS I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IT WOULD GROW ON ME...UM...NOT!:angryfire

I use to live in LA.:chuckle If you like the stress of constant traffic and constant crowds LA is the place to go. I went to LA for a one week vacation in August. The best part of my trip was getting on the plane to go back home. I would never go to LA to live. I will never go to LA again for a vacation either. I was totally stressed out.:crying2:

I was born and raised here and as soon as I can get away from here I will be on the first thing smokin. I can go on & on & on about DC but I won't, I would actually like to try LA. I've never been, scared of earthquakes but would love to try it. Aside from being a little lonely I'm sure i would love it.

So how is it?

When I was growing up, I would dream of moving to L.A. to live, but never I don't think I believed I'd ever do it. I ended up moving to San Diego instead, and have never had any regrets.

I lived in DC for many years and loved it. All cities have crime, not sure DC is that much worse than others. Yes, there is crime... but there are good things as well: great (and FREE) museums, decent public transportation, great restaraunts... if crime freaks you out, try some place like Dakota!

(BTW, I grew up in rural Maine and have seen both urban and rural life-styles)

I mean there are some things that I do like about DC: the rich culture, the diversity, the history, the sights

I love all that stuff about DC too, but not enough to move there. I stay for a week with a friend every once in awhile, and the traffic and parking are enough to make me miss my town. And i don't even like my town.

As others have already said, every major city has crime, and certain parts of every city have a higher crime rate than others. Isn't it true that there are really crappy parts of L.A. where there are a lot of desparate/crazy people running around shooting-/stealing-/looting from- others?

I think the points about every city having its problems are certainly true. What makes Washington unusual, at least in my experience, is that some of their ''problems'' are so much more evident to visitors than other cities. I just couldn't get over how many sirens I heard during my week in D.C. My hotel was right near Union Station, a couple blocks away from the Capitol. It didn't appear to be a residential, or much of a commercial, area at all (other than the shops at Union Station itself, that is). It seemed odd that there'd be so much call for police assistance. And it really bothered me that so many of the public employees- particularly the cops- seemed to disdain tourists.

First off I don't like the redskins, even more now:( Also, have been there several times, and have found it to be filled with crime, dirty, and just plain creepy. I will live in the burgh anyday over that area.

wow...just an update for you guys since I was the original one who posted the thread. I ended up moving back home to LA. I have no regrets about my decision, although I am sure I will be back often to visit...

i just found this thread... I moved from DC to Philly this year. I truly loved DC and miss it.. I did live in southeast DC for a little while (the scary part, not capitol hill) and decided to get out when my roommate's car got stolen, but for the most part, I didn't get bothered. and yeah, Philly is worse. I'd rather be in DC.

LA is a horrible place. I'm from SF and love Northern California, but SoCal is a pit.

Yeah, I laugh at people from the East Coast who think that LA is some sort of escape from crime and city. It's an UBER-city that looks like a giant suburb. And the downtown area is a joke... lacking in culture.

It's huge, in terms of urban sprawl and population. It's the second largest city behind only NY, yet it's per/mile population is not much. What does that mean? URBAN SPRAWL. It takes hours to go anywhere or do anything and the traffic is legendary. You think traffic is bad in DC? Ha! Compared to LA it's a joke.

The crime is horrible. Watts, Compton, Long Beach. There's a reason why it's home of Gangsta Rap. Bullets and prostitutes everywhere. And the "Good" neighborhoods are up to 3x the price of most big cities, and the attitude is fake and pretentious on a whole new level. People in Norcal and the East Coast are real, LA is as fake as it gets.

You can have LA, I'd take a winter in NY over a summer in LA any day! Yeach!!!!

I'm no fan of LA myself, but I really don't think it's necessary to trash the place. As far as SoCal being a "pit", I live in a beautiful area of coastal San Diego County and you are the first and probably only person who I will ever hear refer to this area as a pit. To each their own. We don't have room for you here anyway.

WOW - good to know about DC and Philadelphia - I might have to avoid those areas if I decide to travel on the east coast!!

Sorry about the car windows though!! I once tried to break into my own car as I was stupid and locked myself out, but was not able to get through the glass...Plus I was a bit embarrassed to be doing it in broad daylight at a major hospital!!
