Why Does It Seem That RN's Hate Us and Hospitals Don't Believe In Us??

Published

Im a new PN grad and have been a STNA (state tested nurse assistant) for 7 years; but as a graduate it seems that RN's are threatened by PN's or feel that we don't know anything and hospitals dont want us, at least that's been my experience with my job search here in Ohio and Ga and I don't understand why. We as PN's have to learn @least 80% of the material that a student in a ADN program learns in 11 months vs. 2 yrs, so what makes us different besides the rate of pay, which really isn't any different at least in Oh where a UNEXPERIENCED LPN makes minimally TO START 16.75 w/o differential and more for being IV and CPR certified and a UNEXPERIENCEC RN makes IN OHIO makes 17.00/hr. I don't want to come across as confrontational because that's not why Im writing. I just want to get some other points of view from LPN'S AND RN'S to help me understand.

Im my opinion, a nurse is a nurse is a nurse. We all have respective places in the healthcare field. RN's, LPN's and CNA's. If we put our efforts into respecting our own educational levels, individual achievements, (most states have "fluid concepts" practice acts meaning with proper documentation and training, LPN's can do a lot within the SOP) and focusing on excellent patient outcomes, we would be in a much better situation than we are now as nurses.

If you want to move up on the career ladder, go to school. As an LPN, I worked in various facilities, various positions and even as an Assistant Director of Nursing in a Skilled Nursing facility. However, I am moving towards my RN, because I want to teach at the LPN level.

We all need to focus our energies on respecting each other, teach the new nurses to the best of our abilitites and focus on improving patient care.

AFTER ALL, WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. The RN vs LPN vs CMA vs Med Tech etc..... is old and tiring. Let's pick up a new cause, recruit more teachers so nursing school is not such a pain in the ass to get into. Or, recruit more nurses so we can take care of our patients. Or better yet, stop and smell the roses because life is too short for all this drama....

We had student RN's and some of them didn't put forth the effort and wanted to lean of the LPN's. Don't get me wrong everyone needs help sometimes and school can be nerve racking but when you choose lunch over passing your meds there's a problem. They will be our charge nurses one day. LPn/LVN do most of the hands on in a hospital.:)

Not necessarily. It's not good to make such generalizations.

Good nurses respect good nurses. Some bad nurses are RNs. Some bad nurses are LPN/LVNs and as such their mistakes are more likely to be repeated as not "that nurse's mistake" but rather "that LPNs mistake". Hospitals have a problem. What are LPN/LVNs? We vary so much. If they hire an RN they can, within reason, know what that person can do. Some LPN/LVNs do everything an RN does but the next one may do little more than a CNA. It is confusing and easy to be misjudged.

ive seen anywhere from $11-$15hr in TX.

Iam also an LPN for almost 10 years now and I have almost completed my RN I stopped school only because of my family. I run into this everyday not my coworkers but the hospital I work at LPNS canand are able to do more than hospitals allow us to , and that makes it hard on everyone trying to work as a team. To care for our patients which is what is important. Hospitals need to let us use the skills we have and train the ones that need more training, We can do more.. I am so tired of hear YOUR JUST AN LPN.. Everyone works just as hard and and we all need to work together

I moved to Fort Worth, Texas last year from California.

I am a new LVN without much experience and earn $18.50 hourly. My brand-new house cost $105,000. There are no state income taxes in Texas.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metro area pays much higher LVN salaries than San Antonio. The average in DFW, Texas for new LVNs is $16 to $21. I am a newer LVN who has never been offered any wage under $17.75 hourly.

LVN/LPNs [91WM6] in the Army Medical Department are very valuable and highly respected.

I am a MDS RN in a LTC facility with on call responsibities, QA/QIP responsibilities, MDS, Care Conferences, Unit Management responsibilities, attend at least 7 meetings a week (not including the "surprise, drop what you are doing" ones) and I know every one well in the facility. There are issues in every department (some very important to say it "lightly") and they are not getting addressed. My question is...where do I go with these issues when there is no support up above? Moral is terrible. I'm ready to walk. Thanks for your time and opinion.

The similarities in pay might be frustrating to the Ohio RNs, too.

The RNs attended school for a lengthier amount of time and they're not earning much more than LPNs who attended school for approximately one year. If I was an RN, I'd be resentful if I started off at $17/hourly and the LPN started at $16.75/hourly.

Hopefully no one is going to chew me out or bark at me for speaking my mind. I've attempted to do so without using insulting language or creating a rift between the LVNs and RNs. Remember that I just love all nurses! :kiss

OMG I can't believe that all you guys make for RN and LPN. LMAO!!!! LPN here make up to 22-32 an hr and RN can make 25-50 an hr. No way am i going to school and only make 17 an hr. CNA gets paid 18 an hr in the hosp. I am just shocked thats all. I made that amount just working from home. You ladies and gents need to move to tri sate area.
