  1. Here's one for ya! A patient came into the ER with c/o abdominal pain and rectal bleeding. Patient stated she had been taking suppositories for constipation X 10 days. Well, following an Xray, it was determined that she did not removed the foil wrapping for the supps!!! Punch line - She was a licensed nurse... NO JOKE!!!
  2. There is NO nursing board in the USA that will allow anyone without proper education to sit for the NCLEX - PN or RN.
  3. LPN's cannot be a DON unless the Administrator is an RN and assumes responsibility..... However, LPN's make awesome ADON's.....
  4. There is a great CD called Maternal Newborn Nursing Made incredibly easy. I passed this test 1st time using this CD..... It's awesome.
  5. In all honesty, just do your job, be yourself and NEVER LET THEM SEE YOU SWEAT. If you can get beyond them being "surveyors" and remember that they as well as you have jobs to do ~ you will be fine. Make sure you follow all your medication rights, make sure you know which inhaler to give first, take a pulse prior to giving digoxin, etc... All the stuff you would normally do........ If you do not know an answer to the question, say, I will find the answer and get right back to you - then make sure that you do. BY THE WAY - WASH YOUR HANDS ALOT - EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO. Especially between patients - some surveyors do not like the alcohol gel so WASH WASH WASH..... Make sure you know why you are giving the meds you are giving.........
  6. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU... It seems to the big elusive test since none of the professors at school would give out any information on it...... I have been a LPN for 6 plus years, want to finish my RN, and still to this day have absolutely no idea what geometry has to do with nursing .. I am taking the exam in September. Thanks again, I sincerely appreciate it....
  7. Has anyone taken the NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam? If so, any advice on how to prepare? Thanks!!
  8. Im my opinion, a nurse is a nurse is a nurse. We all have respective places in the healthcare field. RN's, LPN's and CNA's. If we put our efforts into respecting our own educational levels, individual achievements, (most states have "fluid concepts" practice acts meaning with proper documentation and training, LPN's can do a lot within the SOP) and focusing on excellent patient outcomes, we would be in a much better situation than we are now as nurses. If you want to move up on the career ladder, go to school. As an LPN, I worked in various facilities, various positions and even as an Assistant Director of Nursing in a Skilled Nursing facility. However, I am moving towards my RN, because I want to teach at the LPN level. We all need to focus our energies on respecting each other, teach the new nurses to the best of our abilitites and focus on improving patient care. AFTER ALL, WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. The RN vs LPN vs CMA vs Med Tech etc..... is old and tiring. Let's pick up a new cause, recruit more teachers so nursing school is not such a pain in the ass to get into. Or, recruit more nurses so we can take care of our patients. Or better yet, stop and smell the roses because life is too short for all this drama....
