Who's hiring

Published

What states are hiring and what states are laying off. My state just had a big round of layoff's at a majority of hospitals. There is a current hiring freeze at the hospitals. Darling Husband lost his job this summer. If I lose my job (New grad 07). My family will be homeless and hungry. I was wondering where could I go and get a job if I had to. By the way. I am an AD. Really don't won't to go to school right now because of the lack of funds. Hosp. will reimburse. However, I have to come up with the first 2000.00.

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. :o What part of the country are you currently located? Massachusetts is one place you should avoid right now. There are hiring freezes at a lot of the hospitals and even some lay offs. New grads are having a terrible time finding jobs.

I agree, it's location, location these days. I'm actually getting my license in another state, and considering relocating because of the bad nursing job market in my area, NW Ohio. I've already applied for jobs in my neighboring state, and getting replies like crazy. A world of a difference. So, your location is vital.

I was curious about nursing jobs near Dallas,TX so I contacted careerbuilder.com and asked to be on the email alerts for jobs in Dallas. I got many many email alerts so I am thinking that Texas might be a good place for jobs. Good luck with your search.:p

fyi, for those of you looking for jobs do not go by job postings and websites. many hospitals who are not hiring will post jobs they do not have openings for now, but anticipate in the near future. keep in mind near future can be 3 mo - 1 year (yes the project out that far). so, if there is a place you actually want to work, i would talk to a real human in hr and ask them if there are openings now. what floors are actually in need now. this way you can focus on contacting the hiring mangers who want someone now rather then wasting your time with those who are not looking at this time. this also means that if the hospital is not in your area you will need to actually travel to the job site and meet people face-to-face if you are not getting responses. also be sure to attend job fairs and talk to recruiters. show interest in the floors that they have the most trouble filling if you really need a job now. new graduate nurses are nurses without more then 2 years of work experience and many schools around the country are graduating us at a rate that far exceeds the need by many facilities. thus, the competition right now is stiff. be sure to be flexible (have an open mind) and have a positive attitude. good luck with your search. :twocents:

Has anyone heard anything about the Atlanta are not hiring new grads or laying off nurses?

My hospital organization is still actively hiring. I just checked the job listings before posting this. 43 RN positions spread over 3-4 different facilities in 3 towns. Used to see much more posted but I know they are hiring for these. This is NE Tn.
