I finally got CPR certified today and have finished all of my vaccines for Nursing School! I have bought all of my books and supplies! I have Orientation on August 7th!!!! I know that it's real, and it has been ever since I received my letter back in May. Today, though, is the first day it has FELT real! I know that it will feel even more REAL when I go to orientation, and then clinicals, and so on and so on! I just wanted to post this because I am overflowing will excitement and anticipation!!!! Anyone else to that point or passed that point yet?
I'm super excited, also! But I have to wait until January to start my core classes. I found out I was accepted to my BSN program over a month ago and have already done my titers, ppd tests, CPR class, and ordered my book and scrubs for the Care Partner (similar to CNA) class I'm required to take this Fall. I'm just ready for 2013 to get here so I can start my program and a few months later my hubby will come home from deployment! I'm just overloaded with excitement and impatience! Haha.
I start on Aug 20, and I can not wait. I have put off going for 8 years, and now there are only 3 weeks left. Physical is done, CPR is renewed, stethoscope and supplies will be ordered today, and my uniform tomorrow. Orientation is on the 9th, and I am really looking forward to meeting my classmates and getting my books. The last bit to take care of is health insurance. :uhoh21:
It occurred to me the other day, that after almost a decade of working full time, I will once again be a full time student and pretty much dependent on my fiance and student loans. I felt a sense of panic that I have not felt in awhile. My job will be to go to school, do well, study, and make our sacrifices for the next two years worth it. I have gotten some review materials for math and medical terminology, and plan on reviewing some A&P. I am anxious to get this started!
It is nice to see your excitement. I am older and more cynical. Here is how I feel about nursing school starting on August 15:
1. Broke. (Didn't realize all the costs, geez. This could be worse, I am sure, I did get some financial aid, but how much stuff does one nursing student need)
2. Annoyed. (I have no idea what to expect)
3. Sore (you should see the bruises from all the pokes)
4. Scared to death.
Let the fun begin! :)
Ah, a kindred spirit. That's exactly how I feel about nursing school.
I'm past excited and into the "kill-me-now-please-it's-never-going-to-end" phase. I have no money, I'm always exhausted, I get tired of being scrutinized, my life is nonexistent, I don't see anyone except my nursing instructors/peers... and it's just overall a pain in the ass.
That first test is always bad because it is a whole new way of testing. Keep your head up because it will be worth it. Be prepared to make sacrifices with family and friends. Ill finish my second semester this next week. Best of luck.
I hope that everyone that has posted read this post and keeps it locked away in the back of their memory...this is true...(in reference to the first test).
For me, the first exam was KILLER. You come out of pre-reqs studying the facts of things, for example A & P...using the same strategy, that is how I studied for my first nursing exam...totally not fact based. Looking at some of those questions, there were 4 answers...they all seemed right! Craziness! Hopefully your school has you do Nurse Logic which helps in breaking down the question to eliminate all wrong answers to get to the right one. If not, I suggest Kaplan as the material offers some direction as to how to break it down.

The hard part is still to come you have to know what you are doing and be able to keep up your grades to stay in the program. I am going into my 3rd semester and it is not easy. I have made A's in the 3 nursing classes I have taken. I study 8 to 10 hours a day so be ready...and good luck
