Thought maybe we could form a support and study group. I've seen a post for July, August, and now October but not September. If I missed the post can someone direct me to it?

I'm going to try to take in september...how many weeks are you all planning to study?
Well I've been studying for a month now..God I'm such a slow reader, but I really don't wana take anymore chances of failing so I'm weeding out all the info that I'm weak on and jotting it down so I can go through it later and hopefully won't forget it..After that I'm doing the questions.

I cannot imagine having to take the NCLEX for the first time in 30 years. My heart goes out to you. I've heard how the test was done back then. We sure have it better. I can't imagine having to wait two months for a result. I wouldn't have had a hair left in my hair. What area of nursing do you want to go into? My husband and I both have a BS in computer information systems and he plans to go to nursing school in a couple of years. He's waiting for his textile plant to move overseas before he begins. He wants to combine his degrees and go into nursing informatics. Even though I have the computer degree, I want to do bedside nursing. I enjoy working with people more than computers. lol How did you do with the Saunders book? After 30 years, did you remember most of it?

I did practice for about 13 yrs, hospital ( surgical, ortho and medical) and then I worked as a Director of Nursing for a 40 bed nursing home. I then went on and changed careers....I got a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and worked in the automotive field for about 15 yrs.
I want to do home health nursing. I've had two hip replacements and they can slow me down sometimes ( so no floor nursing).
Saunder's has been a good review. I didn't remember so much of peds and OBGYN. I put down many NG tubes, inserted catheters. I just haven't forgotten some things since I did them so often. And drugs are still around Dig, Lasix. I could go on and on. I've had to read chapters but now I'm not so stressed like I was in my engineering classes (these were stressful). I remember walking out of exams and just knowing I hadn't done well.

My first degree is in computer information systems and, while I enjoyed the classes, I didn't like them nearly as well as my nursing classes. I also didn't understand some of them as well as the nursing classes. Nursing school was way harder but I enjoyed the content much more.
You really made a career change from nursing to engineering, and back again. I know a dr who was an engineer for many years and then went to med school. Some of us just take longer to decide what we want to be when we grow up don't we? lol:D

I'm planning to test the middle of September. I've had a lot of stress going on around me this summer and haven't been able to study quite like I wanted to until the last month or so. I've really knuckled down and tackled this Saunders book the way that Suzanne suggested. I'm waiting on her second tip now. My school paid for Virtual ATI for us and I did really well on the tests when I took them in school. Since I have been out (graduated in May), I've flopped on them. I decided to switch to Saunders for the time being and I have done much better with it. At least Saunders gives you rationales so you know why you missed a question. ATI does not. If you have time to delay your test a bit I'd suggest giving Suzanne a try. It's free and every bit will help. Just my two cents.

I thought about it and i've rescheduled for late September. It gives me a few more weeks at least. Good luck to you and all of us really. With the effort we are putting in i'm sure we will do well.

I started Saunder's Book yesterday and answered chapts 6-8. Got 65% on chapt 6 so I read the whole chapter and answered it again. The next time I got 100%. Chapters 7 and 8 I got 90% and 100% respectively. Today I'm trying to finish chapters 9 to 11. I should be able to finish the whole book within 2 to 3 weeks depending on how I scored on each chapter. Suzanne's plan is a six week program so I'm thinking I'll be ready by end of September which is approximately 2 months.
