I'm asking this question because Saunders (5000 questions book) is the only method I use to study the NCLEX. Kaplan is so expensive and I dont know if it's really necessary to enroll in the course or use the qbank.
Hi...just wanted to know where it is that you took the Saunders Review course. I have a co-worker that also took it but it was 5 days and a all day thing and she said the samething. Do you have the name of the company that does this? I was hinting around to her telling me..but all I got out of her was that her job at the hosp sent her and that it was at some place. She did say that they went over and highlighted everything to study for.
Oh, and I am currently using just the Saunders 4th edition book. I also have the 5000 question saunders book 3rd edition. I mostly use the 4th edition cd and just started using the question (5000) book when I get bored from the computer. I do a 100 questions a day and when I'm finished - I reflect on what I learned from those 100 questions. I have been able to read what the question is asking and not reading into the question - like I have in the past.
I did Kaplan the 1st time and I didn't get anything from it but a big headache..to me (I know that everyone is different) it was a waste of my time and money.
GOOD LUCK to all waiting to take the NCLEX!! Stay positive and remain calm...WE CAN DO THIS!!
I agree that you need to do around 4500 questions. I did 100-150 per day plus the Kaplan trainer questions and I believe that made the difference. I did very little reading, just reviewed those areas I was weakest on. I did take Kaplan but I think if you read about the tree you don't need it. I found it helpful in a psychological way but you can learn it on your own. I also did Saunders, very hard CD. I liked the rationales for the questions with Saunders the best.
I took the NCLEX about two weeks ago (passed), and the only book I used to study was Saunder's. I casually studied during my last two months of nursing school, and studied intensely the two weeks before the exam.
I found the questions following each chapter slightly more challenging than the CD questions, so I'd definitely recommend doing all of those. Then I did quiz after quiz until I was scoring in the high 80's.
I was worried sick about this issue because most of the thread i read was recommending Kaplan which i can't afford right now.
I am currently almost done with the saunders book and starting with the CD this august. I am giving my self at least a month to practice with the CD. at least 100 questions a day and not more than 150 questions per day. My schedule is September 15.
I am so glad that there is actually testimonials about the Saunders book and its benefits because,
Im feeling a lot of anxiety and stress. i just pray that we may pass the nclex and hopefully the 1st try.

Every instructor/RN that i've spoken to has advised to do at least 3000 questions, minimum. I've done just under 2000 so far and don't feel as prepared as i should, so i definitely can't see how 1000 would be even close to sufficient. Sure, maybe you *could* get by with that, but why chance it?
