  1. "PneumaticTube down" (technically 3, but I made it 2)
  2. I am also a new grad, and I completely understand and relate to that feeling of feeling responsible for every little thing that goes wrong during a shift. So sorry you had to have an experience like this. Reading your post made me wonder if your hospital has a protocol for alcohol withdrawl. The ICU I work in has a specific protocol for that, and I'll have to look at it to see what doses of benzos are listed. Off the top of my head, 10 mg of diazepam does not seem excessive, especially for an ETOH withdrawl patient. You definitely did the right thing by questioning the dose and asking your preceptor. My thought is the dose was not inappropriate per se, just not right for that particular patient.
  3. This nursing dx. was my all-time fave in school!! Much to the chagrin of my clinical instructors, I included it in a few care plans. Someone has to be concerned about the patients' 'energy field,' right?! :wink2:
  4. I put my laptop away and watched movie after movie. All the movies I missed while in nursing school!! :)
  5. Earthy...almost like the smell of compost...but worse.
  6. I also used the Saunder's book to study for the NCLEX. I recommend just doing quiz after quiz and make sure you read the questions very thoroughly. One of my problems, I found, was I wasn't reading the questions right. Looking back, the answer seemed so obvious after realizing I had merely misinterpreted the question. Bets of luck!
  7. I've been that route, actually. I guess you could say I hit an impasse during the process and started to wonder if it was me or the system.
  8. Even for spots in the PICU internship? Do you know if they still accept new grads sans experience to that program, which I understand is a years worth of training?
  9. My ATI predicted success of passing was 98% and I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. I thought the ATI questions were much trickier than those from the Saunder's book, which is what I used to study for the exam. ATI was required by my nursing school, and I paid more money on those materials than anything else. Can I say it helped with my NCLEX success? I don't know.....
  10. As my mom (ICU nurse for 25 years) always told me when I stressed out about calling out sick as a student working as a Tech, it's none of their business why you're not coming in; all they need to know is that you won't be in today.
  11. I'm sorry that happened. But, I did get a chuckle out of your story. I'm also a new grad, and I could totally see something like that happening to me. Like tripping and falling on the unit tour, or inhaling my saliva before answering an interview question. :)
  12. When I was in nursing school (just graduated), I actually had nurses say, "Oh no, don't give me a student!" Some of my classmates were pretty hurt by this; I tried not to let it bother me. Usually, once they saw that we were eager, somewhat helpful, and interested, their attitudes changed.
  13. I wasn't directly asked what my GPA was during the interview, but all the hospitals I applied to required transcripts and most "suggested" not applying if your GPA was not above a certain specification. I suppose that was their roundabout way of finding out! :wink2:
  14. Any chance there is still a hiring freeze at NYP, specifically Morgan Stanley Children's??
  15. I took the NCLEX about two weeks ago (passed), and the only book I used to study was Saunder's. I casually studied during my last two months of nursing school, and studied intensely the two weeks before the exam. I found the questions following each chapter slightly more challenging than the CD questions, so I'd definitely recommend doing all of those. Then I did quiz after quiz until I was scoring in the high 80's.
