Who else is starting clinicals in the winter?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Since there is a thread going for fall starters, I thought we could start one for the winter starters. Are there any out there.

I will be starting in January 06

yup, I have aim ... (nena19jr)

I guess they bumped you up! :)

Good luck to everyone starting NS soon!!! :)

I also hope to start in the spring. I talked to my advisor and she said that I a good chance because my GPA is high and they go by GPA first and foremost. I will complete the last of my pre-reqs in the fall. If I get accepted then I will have:

Professional Nursing 1: 8 credits

Pharmacology: 3 credits

Health Assesment: 3 credits

Pathophysiology: 3 credits

It equals to 17 credit hours first semester. The cool thing about my school is if I don't get a spot in the clinical class, I can still take the pharm. and patho. classes. Then I would take the clinical and health assesment in the fall of 06.

I should find out in October if I got in or not. I am so excited and can't wait. Good luck to everyone else who is waiting for their letters. We will have to keep each other posted when those letters start rolling in!

Great, hopefully we can all keep in touch and share our experiences. :)

I'll find out in mid-late October if I start in January. (FINGERS CROSSED!!)

Good luck to you all!

Boy Fun2Care seems like we are on the same schedule. I will apply this fall for the Spring 06 (your winter semester) I am hoping to start in January myself. From what the Dean of Nursing said, they accept 120 students each fall/spring semesters and the lowest GPA for this past Spring admissions was a 3.2. I am maintaining a 4.0 right now and I am finishing up with my prereq's this semester. I have an A in both classes right now so I am confident I will be applying with a 4.0 GPA. DoN said that if you have a 4.0 you will get in, it starts to get iffy for those with a 3.5 and lower. So I am confident I will start in Jan 06. I am so nervous, scared and well you name it. I will find out sometime in Oct if I am accepted so that month will be a complete blur to me LOL. Good luck everyone!

Congrats on those grades . I share the same confidence even though they haven't confirmed it, but we have to keep thinking positive, so I am with you. :p

This is me almost exactly.. I originally applied for this fall. I had (and still have) a 4.0 but the requirements changed to say that if you had anything in progress at the time of the app, which was last January for this fall, (even if you would be done before NS starts) they wouldn't even consider you (I have boo hooed this story all over the boards). This made me and so many others quite upset as we had been told all along that as long as our GPA was above 3.5 we were shoe in's so to speak. Anyway.. I put all my eggs in one basket getting child care and my life in order thinking I would be starting in August only to be let down in May when I was not accepted. BUT on the word of the director I WILL start in January!!! I'm glad Jessica started this thread as I have been wallowing in not starting all summer!!! Let's all keep in touch!

Our NS says acceptance letters will be sent in December. A little late for a January start date I think. They are trying to get them out in November. How kind of them!

so, what is everyone else doing or planning?....share with us. :p

i have my steth already, my shoes and some heavy duty hose (since even at the young age of 30 i have varicose veins) also have my pressure cuff. my husband bought me a pda last year for my birthday so i need to get some programs for that. i've figured out how to use it as a recorder so i plan to buy an additional sd card just for lecture. i don't have any school supplies yet since i have three kids i have to buy them for first!! plus i still have fall semester to buy books and supplies for (i'm doing some classes for my bsn).

what kind of program is everyone doing? i'm doing to adn route and then online bsn when i'm done with that (so i can hopefully be working and earning some money while finishing school).

I'm taking Fall off. If I find out in October that I'm not going to get in for Spring 06, then I'll take a fast-track, or winter-mester course to boost my GPA. 3.77 right now in 13 credit hours of rereqs , so far only 3.77 in 13 credit hours of non-nursing courses. (Currently taking A&P 2 a 4 credit hour course)

So, we'll see. I plan on asking my mom to get me a PDA for Christmas....she always wants to know what I want, so that can be my big present....lol

I will need to get a second-hand watch...a cheapy, just in case it gets ruined.

I want to try out different stethoscopes, b/c I want a good one. However, I'm thinking an ADSCOPE 655 Amplifying Stethoscope. :)

I'll also want some sort of bag, & comfortable shoes. I'm not sure what we have to get as far as shoes & uniforms, so Ill have to wait until orientation for that. I'll also need bandage scissors.

OH.....and a bunch of student nurse clothing....cause years after I graduated high school, I'll finally will have made it!! (Now, once I get in, I'll be praying that God just helps me finish!) lol

I am 23 and am loaded with varicose veins (painful too). Mother's side of family everyone has them :o . Seems like you are all set then. I am happy for you. Like I mentioned before, I am getting things little by little so that I won't feel a hole in my pocket :D . I too am doing ADN route, and will start BSN req's in the winter while in clinicals. We share the same goals :)

Best wishes to you. :p

That's great! Husband bought me PDA earlier in the year...actually a treo smartphone and I love it. I still need a stethoscope, and also would like a nice white watch. Haven't bought clothing yet either just shoes. I think we have to purchase some kit that has the scissors in them but am unsure. You will do great and God is good. :)

I told my hubby that I was going to get a PDA/phone on my next upgrade, but I'm not sure if I want them separate or not.

As for kits, etc., I wish there was more information for my program. It would be nice having things bought up before you go to orientation. The list isn't very specific.
