Not to brag and I have been absent from the board a while. But staying off the Computer had to have helped in acheiving a 3.75. Not too shabby for working full time PM 12's and taking 12 credits eh? Let me know what you took and how you did as so many threads are about bad experiences let's brag a little. I'd like to hear from some of you working adults!

i didn't make the dean's list, but i did make the honors list. i had 20 hours, a part-time job, two very active children, two goats, two rabbits, and four horses to deal with also.
grades are as follows:
voc. nurse concepts - a
mental health - a
health science - a
nurse skills i - a
nurse skills ii - a
health & illness i - b
clinical - b
ended up with a semester gpa of 3.75 and an ever so slight increase on my cumulative gpa. why is it that one bad grade can do so much damage to your gpa, yet it takes a miracle to get it back up??
At my school, 3.75 up is the president's list and 3.5 to 3.749 is the dean's list... I didn't even think I would make the dean's list, let alone the president's list...
Intro to Nursing: A
Adult Health Nursing I: B+
Microbiology: A
Caring and Diversity: A-
Sociology: A
I'm pretty surprised since everyone said, forget about getting A's in nursing school. And if it wasn't for the different grading scale, my B+ would be an A.
Pretty good considering I took 15 credits and worked full time.
Hope everyone else did as well as they wished! Good luck next semester!

how is it with all those great grades you didn't make the dean's list????
those grades are awesome!!!! great job!
mccosner...i'm not sure how i didn't make the dean's (or president's) list myself. i thought that 3.5 was dean's and 3.75 was president's. i guess the cumulative gpa could play a factor. and due to certain circumstances last semester it's not as high as i would want, but it is a 3.17 after this semester.
thanks for the kind words.

i am surprised you got a letter grade for clinicals. i thought every school used pass/fail. what kind of things did they mark you down for? regardless, you did an awesome job!
mithrah...to the best of my knowledge all of the schools in my area give letter grades for clinicals. in my particular program (this semester) we were given grades based on how well we thought vs. how well the instructor thought we did on certain skills and handling ourselves (clinical evaluation). such as getting/giving report, completing our assessments, etc. plus we had a lengthy patient assessment form we had to complete. and based on how well it was completed, plus our clinical evaluation, the instructor gave us a grade.
next semester we will have 2 evaluations and 2 care plans that we will get graded on for our clinical grade.
thank you for the kind words!!
originally posted by rn2beour school is another one of those pass/fail schools. sometimes i wish we were a graded clinical/lab school. it would have been alot better for some of my fellow students that could have used a boost in their theory grades.:)
rn2be, our clinical and skills lab grades are stand alone classes and do not boost out theory grades at all. you can make an a in one of the theory classes (i.e., mental health) and if you don't make the necessary passing grade (75 at my school), then you fail the class and are out of the program.

Oh, I am sorry I think you misunderstood. In our school we needed a 75 to pass theory plan and simple. If a person fails clinical or theory they fail the whole course and have to repeat both. What I was getting at is I believe that pass/fail classes are far more subjective than graded courses that is all. I prefer graded classes.
congrats, however I just wanted to mind you. . . .it's not what's on paper but whether you actually know how to use that knowlegde in real life; that's what really counts and makes the difference between "good" nurses and "GOOD" nurses. Oftentimes you will notice that difference in you clinicals and later at work
Once again, good job on your report card:)

Nursing (clinicals) A
Fundamentals of nursing B
Health Assesment B
Way to go to everyone regardless of if they made the dean's list or not. Becoming a nurse seems to be a road full of road blocks. First making the decision to go to nursing school, then prereqs, then trying to get in to the actual program, then making it through, then nclex WOW I think we all need to be commended just for making the decsion knowing full well all that it requires. I truly wish everyone the very best of luck!!!!
