Which RN-BSN online program did you chose and why ?

Which program for RN-BSN did you chose and why ? Does the program require clinical ? Assignments, Are they exams , essay papers, group or combination ? Is everything offered online ? If you needed additional prereq's ? or had to repeat any prereq's ? There are so many RN-BSN online programs now, just thought it might be helpful to hear what other students opinions are about the program they are in or have completed.I realize there can be a huge difference in cost factor, but I would like to hear about the program and how it is structured ,what you liked and disliked about the program.

I started Grand canyon University, they accepted everything, classes were 5 wk one at a time, but they are mostly group projects, finished Professional Dynamics, got an A but next class was even more groups. Then my father went into ICU and I had to drop, well apparently, not very acceptable, nasty woman called me demanding to know when I would come back etc. I finally just withdrew, my enrollment person was totally the best but otherwise academic and financial people got promoted after one contact with me and no one went in their places. And they have no calendar at this point in March, and they changed the class schedules 3x since I enrolled in Jan and never told anyone.

I have applied at Jacksonville Univ, no group projects!! and they are still evaluating my transcripts, I have 128 credits plus that one upper level class. I had picked Chamberlain before Grand Canyon talked me out of it with the online(not brick and mortar school) degree not being "good enough" I fell for it! Top goal is nurse practitioner, 2nd would be nurse educator. I checked out Thomas Edison but found their web site confusing.

Has anyone actually gone to any classes at Thomas Edison? How much group work is there at Chamberlain? Anyone at Chamberlain who is willing to share more about classes would be appreciated.

Anyone know anything concrete about Jacksonville Univ?

I took two classes online at Thomas Edison....no group projects...just posting once a week/a few projects/and for one class a short paper..it was a good experience...I would continue to attend there but I'm going for the MSN ( have a bachelors in a different area) and you have to either have a BSN or go through the BSN/MSN program

I have decided to go with Chamberlain for my RN-BSN,I start 04/26 in Session B. really looking forward to starting. I have 6 Gen. Ed. and the 7 Nrsg. My contacts in admissions and financing were great to work with, they are very organized.I have read so many positive comments on their program.

I've decided that my main concern was going to be the cost of the program. I've done LVN and now RN the cheap way and don't want to incur debt.

I was deciding between University of Wyoming because they are fabulously inexpensive and Cal State Dominquez Hills because I'm a CA native and it would be a bargain price for me. I still haven't made the decision. They seem about the same price? about $800+ for two classes from CSDH and the same for University of Wyoming. I like the fact that U of W has a great reputation. The Fay Whitney school of nursing is known all over. There are not too many classes to take like other private programs that try to bleed you for all you're worth  Either way I still don't have statistics yet. I'm hoping to start the RN-BSN in spring 2011. :) Just need to finish up a few things first. I'm not sure how I will ever get thru statistics. :(

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Has anyone heard anything about Drexel's online RN to BSN?

I have been checking it out they are very liberal in accepting credits from other source.they are a great program

Just chiming in to subscribe to this thread. I just applied to : Jacksonville University, South University, Liberty University, and University of Wyoming .

Drexel did pre-eval, accepted all my credits, had 2 classes I had never taken, ethics and computer class. They are no more costly then any other, do not start till fall, and I think it will take a bit longer than Chamberlain.

I have 133 credits, Jacksonville accepted them but wanted me to take 7 more general ed classes plus nursing classes!!!!

Told them No way! They are cheaper if you are resident of FL which I was but no longer.

Actually every program I have looked at accepted everything I had taken, And yes in my youth many moon=s ago somehow I took Statistics and got a "B", must have been too young to realize how hard it was. This is the top class I can say I was so glad to have completed.

My general problem is have been RN 22 yrs, have done many things and lots of management, getting BSN is only a step towards another degree, as it will not get me any $$ or any job I want and can not have at present. I am 54, and I just undecided if I really want this for all the $$ it costs,(end goal would be NP or nurse educator.)

I really like online classes.

Just spent 3 weeks in Florida taking care of my dad who died last week, I stopped at Grand Canyon due to increased stress and I hated their group projects and their advisors are unbelievably stupid. Enrollment girl was great but financial and academic were total flakes. Right now they have money they borrowed for me and had to send part back as I withdrew and I can not get a straight as to how much and when....and can not really enroll anywhere else till I know the numbers.

But waiting for another start date if I go to Chamberlain will not be bad and maybe will be less stressed.

I do wish they would just have a special test you could take to get BSN, I'd gladly pay but after 22 yrs with most in community health, I do feel some of this is redundent. :)

I also heard that was good program as well.

Did you apply to U of W? Glad to hear they have such a great reputation.

Sue, thanks for the info. It is helpful to hear feedback from other students.I just finished my FAFSA and the other paperwork for Chamberlain RN-BSN online program . I have done a lot of research on RN-BSN online programs, and by the time I added up the cost for pre-req's,student fees, extra for books ...... It comes out the same as Chamberlain cost. Another thing I liked about Chamberlain, they tell what your cost will be up front,no surprises. I also like the fact they are NLN & CCNE accredited .Out of the hundreds of threads I've read,I have not read any negative comments about Chamberlain's online program.

Will I run in to problems if the school I attend is only CCNE accredited? and not NLN? tia for any info

I just looked it up and the CCNE seems to be the more important accreditation.
