Which RN-BSN online program did you chose and why ?

Which program for RN-BSN did you chose and why ? Does the program require clinical ? Assignments, Are they exams , essay papers, group or combination ? Is everything offered online ? If you needed additional prereq's ? or had to repeat any prereq's ? There are so many RN-BSN online programs now, just thought it might be helpful to hear what other students opinions are about the program they are in or have completed.I realize there can be a huge difference in cost factor, but I would like to hear about the program and how it is structured ,what you liked and disliked about the program.

nlmoore, sorry about having to drop, but family is important, now you can pick up and go again.I am looking into Chamberlain & MUW. Today I was able to log on and do a mock on Chamberlain's online class,I really like their online format, user friendly and you know what your assignments are for the 8 weeks, what is due and when it is due.I have read other negative comments about GCU on this site.Anyone who has enrolled in chamberlain's online RN/BSN has made all positive comments ,I have read a lot of threads here about online RN/BSN programs here.I'm pretty sure I will go thru Chamberlain, myself.

i have applied to texas tech for the summer ....i ultimately choose them because the program is 2 semesters ....i really wanted to go to a texas school that i knew for 100% was concrete and had a good rep through out the state.....my second choice is texas woman's university - which is my alma mater (non nursing) but it is three semesters and i'm ready to head to np school plus i don't think it starts until fall..i may be wrong about that but i plan on applying to np programs in the fall for spring....:D

Mondragon, Thanks for the info, I did Chamberlain online demo also today, GCU"s was very similar, that was not the problem, the group projects were me doing so much of the work . Hate to be that way but I am independent and do not like relying on others for my grade. My dad is worse and wants to go home so I may be going to FLorida to be his nurse, still deciding if it is the best for me, I can easily do classes there. Still gonna wait on Jacksonville's eval of credits, they are cheaper then Chamberlain. GCU's online and basically every online demo I have done is so similar and user friendly, so don't pick program just based on that, I made that mistake, but having actually done a class that was the easiest part. I just really need to find someone in Jacksonville's program. I like the fact that their lectures are written same as everyone but as web based video feed, so you actually hear/see and can read it. having done a class this is a definate plus plus in my world. That is keeping them at my #1 for now. And they encourage you to work ahead weeks at a time if you want that, Chamberlain actually discouraged it. Not that I think it really matters that much, drawback to JU's is classes are 8 weeks but take 2 at a time, not sure I really like that idea. Am I correct that Chamberlain's are 8 weeks but one at a time???????

nlmoore, yes,at Chamberlain it is one class at a time. I work full time,so I don't think I could do 2 classes at a time, like at JU. Also,I need to be able to log on 24/7,instead of specified times. And I am also looking for an established program,no group projects,no proctored exams and no clinicals.

I work full-time and volunteer as a paramedic one day a week, and I've taken two classes together without too much pain. I think it's a matter of picking the right ones to go together!

LunahRN,

When you say no clinicals do you mean no working with a preceptor like in your own company or community like when taking Community Nursing? Does your financial aid aslo cover general ed classes that you had to take that you did not have before? I have lots of classes, most commnuity college level, but have 1 1/2 yrs at University level, have statistics etc. Can you tell me more about experiements. Are you going further with education after Chamberlain? How many classes have you taken there?

Thank you so much for sharing.

I chose Chamberlain. I started last July and will be done in June. I would of been done in April but only took one class this session. I have taken 9 classes with Chamberlain, 1 more to go. My financial aid covered everything. No clinical and you interview people for your experiential learning, it is really pretty easy and quite fun. I have taken 2-3 classes at a time and it is doable. I chose it because of the speed of the program. I'm considering doing the Master's in Nursing Education with them starting in July. You can complete that program in 12-14 months too. I'm still undecided on that part though, still looking into PMHNP programs. I think it is a good program.

Sue, thanks for the info. It is helpful to hear feedback from other students.I just finished my FAFSA and the other paperwork for Chamberlain RN-BSN online program . I have done a lot of research on RN-BSN online programs, and by the time I added up the cost for pre-req's,student fees, extra for books ...... It comes out the same as Chamberlain cost. Another thing I liked about Chamberlain, they tell what your cost will be up front,no surprises. I also like the fact they are NLN & CCNE accredited .Out of the hundreds of threads I've read,I have not read any negative comments about Chamberlain's online program.

I am also considering Chamberlain. I'm waiting on transcript evaluation at this point. A girl I work from the hospital is in her last semester at Chamberlain. She talked highly of the program, lots of papers but she did go full time all the way. I think it took her 14 months total to complete. I can't find the pre reqs so I am curious to see what gen ed classes I am missing. I have a 3 year diploma and a few semesters general ed when I couldn't decide what to do with my life .... had I known what I know now...

Don't feel badly -- I have three associates degrees. Yes, really. I call them my "Masters in Indecision." :D

I've attached an image of my transcript eval with pertinent info blanked out. This might help give you an idea of what you might need.

YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!!! Thanks for letting me see your program info. I don't recall taking any history classes but I've got a boat load of Psych credits. Oh and no foreign language... eeek! I've done a few business courses a long with english, sociology, college algebra, chemistry (I'm not sure it was organic or fundamentals) and A/P 1 and 2, oh and of course, everyone's favorite micro. I went into college after a few years of "finding myself" with a poor GPA so I did a few semesters of catch up work started out in Respiratory Therapy then transitioned into nursing. I might just be okay.

No problem! I don't know if any requirements have changed between then and now, but probably not too much. They took a lot of my credits and didn't make me repeat anything, which was fabulous. My algebra was waived because I'd already had statistics (and algebra anyway, but whatever). I think they kinda roll A&P and Micro up into the CCAP credit -- that's the 80 credits they award for being an RN.
